'HURRICANCE' STEVE PAINE NETS FIRST THUNDER ALLEY WIN

EVANS MILLS, NY.....Steve Paine got his second DIRT Modified win in three days as he captured his first win of the season in Thursday night's 30-lap DIRT Modified race at Caprara's Thunder Alley Speedpark in Evans Mills. Lance Willix returned to victory lane in the DIRT Sportsman, as did Dale Caswell in the IMCA Modifieds. Dave Pope notched the win in the Pure Stocks while DJ Forbes battled to a close win in the Dwarf cars.

The 30-lap DIRT Modified feature started with a tangle that eliminated Ryan Bartlett, Tim McCreadie, and Tyler Bartlett from contention. On the restart, Paine took the lead from Jeff Brownell while Vic Coffey and Bob McCreadie battled through the pack.

Coffey and McCreadie moved past Brownell as Paine worked lapped traffic in the second half of the race, but were not able to catch the "Hurricane" as he took his first win of the season. Following Coffey and McCreadie were Frankie Caprara and Jeff Brownell.

The 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature found Scott Parliament motoring into the lead as Lance Willix and Jason Potter battled for second. A lap 5 yellow for Cricket Mandigo's crash in turn two bunched the field again, but Parliament was able to hold on to the lead while Kyle Dingwall moved into the third spot.

Dingwall, Willix, and Parliament battled furiously for the lead in the second half of the feature, with Willix making an outside move to grab the lead with just three laps to go to get his fourth win of the year. Parliament held off Dingwall in the closing laps for second, with Potter and Jessica Zemken rounding out the top five.

The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature also had an opening lap jingle that knocked out multi time feature winner Sean Lias. Dale Caswell moved into second behind leader Mark Webb on lap 4 and was able to get by him two laps later and lead the rest of the distance. Mark Webb and John Mason had their best finishes of the season, taking second and third respectively, followed by Rich Riggs and George Valenti.

The 15-lap Pure Stock event developed into two separate battles. Dave Pope and multi time winner Dave Mannise battled each other for the lead while Fran Bryant and Dana Aikins diced it out for the third spot. In the end, Pope got the best of Mannise to score a victory, while Bryant held off Aikins for third. Jeff Shannon grabbed the fifth spot.

Invader Mikey Hay pulled into the lead at the start of the 15-lap Dwarf car feature, with DJ Forbes moving in to challenge him. The red flag flew on lap 7 as Tony Buffa tangled with Brian Woodhall, sending Buffa on his lid on the backstretch. He was OK, but the car was heavily damaged. Hay and Forbes continued to battle for the lead, with Forbes taking over on lap 9 and holding off repeated challenges from Hay to get the win. Bob Garafolo, Tim Devendorf, and Mike Isabell rounded out the top five.

The 10-lap Junior Modified Lite feature win went to Taylor Caprara over Dustin Delaney and Jordan Keruskie.

Thundercar winners included Will Gates (4 Cyl. Amateur), Mike Trapp (4 Cyl Master), Jack Jones (4 Cyl. Foreign), Mike Durham (6 Cyl.), Garth Walts (8 Cyl.), and Rush Walts (Thundertruck).

Racing action continues at Thunder Alley next Thursday night with the DIRT Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, IMCA Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Junior Modified Lites plus Thundercar and Thundertruck action. Gates will open at 5 p.m. and racing will start at 7 p.m.
