COLLINS DOMINATES STSS CRATE NORTH ROUND 3 AT TMS
By C. Barry Goodband
CENTER LISLE, NY - Bright sunshine and hot temps greeted the fans at Thunder Mountain Speedway for the first big show of the 2018 postseason. Round 3 for the North Region of the Short Track Super Series Crate Sportsman tour. TMS is set to host an action packed month that includes signature events such as the Lightning on the Mountain $5,000 Short Track Super Series Fueled By Sunoco Modifieds, The Wade Decker Memorial, 100 lap Street Stock Shootout, and of course the history making, $12,000+ TOPLESS 100 Presented by Bob Hilbert Sportswear.
The 600cc Modifieds opened the nights feature program with a 20-lap main that had Doug Windhausen and Byron Worthing on the front row. Windhausen shot out to the point at the drop of the green and never looked back as the field ran off all 20 laps without interruption. Newly crowned 600 track Champ Chris Jordan would give chase but ran out of laps before Windhausen would score the win.

Invaders would out number track regulars as the Street Stocks came out for their 20-Lap feature lead by Glenn Vancise and Jake Fowlston. Vancise would head off turn four to lead lap 1 but would fall quickly into the grasp of Kurt Decker who was making a rare appearance in the car his son piloted to the win in last year’s Wade Decker Memorial race. The Street Stocks once again put on a splendid three and four wide show for the fans as “Captain” Kurt Decker set a course to the win.

Barker picked up right where he left off on the previous night as he took the lead and set a blistering pace throughout much of the distance. Barker was working through lap traffic in the late stages when his pace began to fade on or about lap 29. Shaun Walker; who had been a feature winner the previous Saturday night quickly closed the gap and surged past Barker with three to go picking up his second win in as many weeks.

Though pursued by newly enshrined track champion Jimmy Zacharias and 25 of the best Crate Sportsman pilots in the region, Collins was in a league of his own and glided comfortably to a nearly 4 second margin of victory over the Thunder Mountain regulars.
