DAVE HEASLIP CAPTURES BOTH ENDS OF THE TWIN 20 AT EDELWEISS SPEEDWAY

Veteran driver Dave Heaslip won both ends of two features in the modifieds Friday night at Edelweiss Speedway before the largest crowd of this young season.

The resident of Smiths Falls registered his first win of the year at the Val des Monts oval by finishing in front of Graham Gorman and Laurent Ladouceur who completed the fast three in a tightly raced affair. In the second leg of the twin 20, Heaslip took advantage of Peter Mantha’s misfortune when the Hull driver had to leave for pit lane due to mechanical problems while he was cruising with a comfortable lead in front of the pack with only two laps remaining in the race. Gorman and Ladouceur again were second and third respectively in this second feature.

It was the first time in his 40 years of racing that Heaslip completed two trips to the winner’s circle in the same day and he seemed quite happy after his more than average performance. Marcel Baron and Lee Ladouceur each had previously won a leg of the qualifying heats.

In the Pro Stock category, Eric Gauvreau won his second feature of the season and he had to grab the lead from Stephane Lebrun with only four laps remaining in the race to complete the win. Alain Coursol who had won the qualifying heat by finishing in front of last week’s feature winner, Michel Dupuis, was third.

Unbeaten Dominic Gauvreau is cruising along on top of the drivers standing in the eight cylinders category. Gauvreau won his fourth race in as many outings when he crossed the finish line on top of Glen McKenny and Dave Noganosh who completed the winning trio in the 15 laps affair. Gauvreau and Denis Hamel had previously won the two qualifying heats.

Carl Soucy was on top of the twelve cars field when race director Scott Hanton who was filling in for regular flagman Steve Salvas, waived the checkered in the four cylinders class. Jack St-Arnaud ended second while Francis Rivest had to settle for third best. Soucy and St-Arnaud also were the two qualifying heats winners.

Guy Léger of Cornwall won the ¾ sprints feature over Eric Labelle of Valleyfield and over New York State resident Brian Kissinger who rounded out the top three.

Another program of exciting races will take place at Edelweiss Speedway, this coming Friday night where a full regular program is scheduled. The green flag drops at 7:45.
