LUKE PLANTE'S WIN DIDN'T LAST LONG
GRANBY, Qué., June 7 2003 –After being plagued with mechanical problems since the beginning of the present season, Luke Plante finally was able to visit the winner’s circle, last Friday night at Autodrome Granby in the 30-lap feature for the Modified division. after, He was followed by Claude Brouillard and Alain Boisvert. Unfortunately, his victory was cut short when Granbys’ officials disqualified him for an illegal carburator. Alain Boisvert also had the same treatment. For Boisvert, it is the second time this season that he os excluded from the results.
Due to an other motor problem for Mario Moreau, Plante was able to take the lead on the third lap and survive three yellow flags. In the feature race, Steve Poirier, the Carquest auto parts points leader, was able to retain the first spot in the standings despite a visit to his pit on lap 19 due to a wheel filled with mud. At the restart, Poirier was able to avoid a crash involving Richard Chauvin, Kayle Robidoux, Martin Roy, Vince Quenneville Jr. Mario Lajoie and Clément Therrien in turn one. Quenneville and Therrien were forced to withdraw while the others involved managed to get back in the action after a check-up by their crew members. Poirier finished fifth just behind two times track champion, Réal Lafrance.
Lafrance, Robidoux and Martin Roy won their respective heats at the beginning of the evening.
A first one
At his second start of the season, Alain Mathieu, a former champion in this Sportsman division, was able to clinch his first success by having the best on André Gauthier and Jean Boissonneault.
Many incidents happened during this 20-lap feature. Jean Boissonneault and Yannick Ledoux were penalized by flagman Francis Potvin for misconducté On the 11th lap, Boissonneault was forced to take place at the end of the field after an incident with François Becksted while a lap later, Yannick Ledoux had the same treatment after a contact with Pierre Raymond who was the race leader.
This final was a major upset for Raymond who was looking for his second victory of the season. At the end of the field on the restart, Raymond pitted two laps later to never get back on the track.
In the Semi-Pro division, Denis Tremblay registered his second straight victory at Autodrome Granby to reduce Alain Brochus’ lead margin to only one single point.
Brochu was able to retain his lead due to a sixth place finish. Claude Morrissette and Frédéric Lussier followed Tremblay at the finish line.
Decided not to loose his first place in the 4 Cylinders class standings, defending champion Patrick Dupont made his second visit to the winner’s circle. By having the best on François Bernier and Sylvain Gagnon, Dupont has increased his lead margin to 13 points, 8 more that at the beginning of thr evening.
