HULSIZER WINS FIRST EVER DIRT BIG BLOCK MODIFIED FEATURE AT BREWERTON ON COCA-COLA/SYRACUSE.COM NIGHT

BREWERTON, NY…Steve Hulsizer won his first ever DIRT Big Block Modified feature race at Brewerton Speedway last Friday on Coca-Cola/Syracuse.Com Night. The DIRT Big Block Modified rookie driver drove a flawless race to earn the popular victory in the Gypsum Express car. The victory for the local Brewerton, N.Y. driver was worth $1,700.

Hulsizer jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Coca-Cola/Syracuse.Com DIRT Modified feature from the pole starting position. Action was stopped on lap two for a multi-car tangle between the first and second turn. A total of 10 cars were involved in the mishap. Because of the number of cars involved, the field was sent to the pit area and the Dwarf Car feature was conducted.

When the race resumed Hulsizer was still setting a fast pace. With 10 laps complete he was being followed in the top five by Chuck Hebing, Tom Sears, Frankie Caprara and Jimmy Phelps. At the halfway mark Hulsizer and Hebing continued to race in the top two positions with Sears, Pat Ward and Caprara completing the top five at this stage. Ward continued his charge towards the front and moved into second on lap 27.

In the closing laps Ward continued to pressure his teammate in search of the feature win. Hulsizer wasn’t about to give up the top spot, however, as he went on to his career first DIRT Big Block feature win. Ward had to settle for second with Billy Decker, Alan Johnson and Chuck Bower finishing in positions third through fifth respectively.

Sean Lias won his seventh IMCA Modified feature race of the season Friday night. Bob Bradt, Pat Pontello, Dale Caswell and George Valenti finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Caswell led the opening five laps of the main event before Lias took command on the sixth circuit and he would lead the rest of the way in the 20-lap affair.

Dan Boyce won his first Dwarf Car feature race of the season last Friday night. Wayne Younglove, Bob Garafolo, Steve Miller and Tim Burdick finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Jeff Barker led the opening six laps of the main event. Boyce took command of the field on lap eight and he would lead the rest of the distance in the 20-lap event.

Jeff Herbert claimed his first Four Cylinder Stock feature race win of the season last Friday night. Bob Doolittle, Chuck Powelczyk, Russ Wassner and Lorrie Herbert completed the top five feature finishers behind Herbert. Jeff Herbert led the entire 15-lap distance and he was able to hold off Doolittle at the finish line.

Bud Hinman was the winner of the special Atlantic Coast Old Timers feature event.

Karen Finch won the IMCA Modified Ladies Race, Stacey Burdick won the Dwarf Car Ladies Race and Leza Angle won the Four Cylinder Stock Ladies Race.

Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers all in action plus the Northeast Extreme Free Style Motorcycle Series all in action. Race time is set for 7:30 p.m. For more information please call the track office at 315-668-6906 or the race line at 668-RACE.
