McCREADIE SCORES ANOTHER WIN AT BREWERTON

BREWERTON, NY...."Barefoot" Bob McCreadie used traffic to his advantage, passing Chuck Hebing to collect his fourth straight win in DIRT Modified action at the Brewerton Speedway Friday night. In the IMCA Modifieds, young Tim Murphy held on in the final laps for his first career Brewerton win...in his rookie season. Tony Buffa locked up the Dwarf car track championship with his win, and Lloyd Hinton made it back to victory lane in the 4 Cylinders on Magee Trailer Sales/Currier Plastics night.

Jim Gabriel Jr. took the lead at the start of the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature event with Hebing pulling into the second spot while Bob McCreadie made his way up from the fifteenth starting position. Also coming from deep in the field were point leader Billy Decker, and Danny Johnson, who started back in 23rd after problems forced him out of his heat race. The fans were treated to some great racing as McCreadie and Alan Johnson moved into the top five by lap 10 with Dale Planck in tow.

Up front, Gabriel held off repeated challenges from Hebing until "Mr. Excitement" made an inside move on lap 24 to take the top spot. McCreadie followed Hebing through into the second spot as Alan Johnson fell off the pace with a flat tire. Billy Decker, who had worked his way into the top five, also pulled into the pits under the yellow, with a borken plug wire sidelining him. McCreadie hounded Hebing, slipping past him for the lead just before a lap 28 yellow.

In the dash to the finish, McCreadie pulled away for his fourth straight feature win. In the final two laps, Pat Ward and Tim McCreadie had a torrid battle with Hebing, with Ward grabbing the second spot at the line as McCreadie drove around Hebing for third. Gabriel held on for the fifth spot. DIRT Modified heats were won by Tim Fuller, Planck, and Chuck Bower. Mike Hulsizer captured the Magee Trailer Sales Dash for Cash for the 358 Modifieds.

The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature started off rough for multi time winner Rob Keller, who spun on the opening lap. Dane Keller grabbed the lead and held it until lap 4, when Cory Fachini stormed past and began to pull away. Tim Murphy nosed into the second spot with Sean Lias slipping into the third spot. As the lead trio pulled away, Keller settled into fourth while Kevin Battelle and Bob Bradt battled heavily for fifth.

Murphy closed in on Fachini, but couldn't make a move to get by. Fachini seemed to have the race in hand, but he began to show smoke and leak fluid, dropping off the lead pace and falling out of the event on lap 16. Lias got shuffled back after he bobbled, allowing Keller to get back into second. In the final four laps, Murphy ran low as Keller ran alongside him on the high side. Murphy kept his composure and held off Keller going into the final lap, when Bob Bradt moved past Keller in turn one.

Murphy took his first win at Brewerton by just a couple of car lengths over Bradt, Keller, and Lias, who crossed the line nearly three wide. George Valenti rounded out the top five. IMCA Modified heats were won by Rob Keller, Kevin Battelle, and Dane Keller.

The 20-lap Dwarf car feature started with Ken Gamlen making a daring three wide move to take the lead from David Orr and Ed Lawton. Gamlen pulled out to a healthy lead while Troy Van Allen and Tony Buffa were storming up through the field. On lap 9, Gamlen's car failed and he pulled up high in tursn three and four, handing the lead to Buffa with Van Allen right behind.

In the second half of the feature, Buffa pulled away from Van Allen, who began to show smoke off the left side of his engine. Buffa had a commanding lead at the checkers, but something broke in the rear end as he came under the checkers. Van Allen held tough for the second spot, followed by Pat Pontello, who got the best of his battle with Lawton. Eric Crawford rounded out the top five. Dwrf car heats were won by Orr, Gamlen, and Eric Crawford.

The 15-lap 4 Cylinder feature began with Lloyd Hinton and Jim Olin battling for the lead until they made contact on the frontstretch on lap 5. Olin couldn't hold on and spun into the infield with front end damage while Hinton held on to the lead. Late in the race, Jim Lalone made his way into second and tried several times to steer his way past, but Hinton's car was too strong as Lloyd picked up another win. Filling out the top five behind Lalone were Doug Battles, Harvey Calkins Jr., and John West. 4 Cylinder heats were won by Hinton, Olin, and Battles.

Next Friday night is the final night for points for all classes, along with Women on Wheels races. With the moving of the New York State Championships to Fulton on Saturday, September 18th, this will be the final Friday night show of the season. Gates will open at 5:30pm with racing starting at 7:30pm.
