O'BRIEN AND EISELE DOUBLE UP AT CAN-AM

MACCUE, BATTELLE AND WEBB PICK UP WINS

LAFARGEVILLE NY: Another great crowd was on hand this past Saturday night at the Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, to witness Pat O達rien and Bill Eisele make it two wins in a row each, while Scott MacCue, Kevin Battelle and Scott Webb picked up their first wins of the season on WOTT 100.7 Radio night at the speedway.

The 25 lap 358 DIRT Modified feature was brought to the green flag by John Ramsey and Greg Meeks but it was Billy Wilcox shooting from his 3rd starting spot into the lead at the conclusion of lap 1. Wilcox opened up a sizable lead over his competition with Ramsey and Lee Gill giving chase early. Wilcox looked to have the field covered but on lap 11 his great run came to an end when engine problems sent him to the pit area. Local favorite Lee Gill inherited the lead on the restart and look very strong but it was last weeks winner Pat O達rien who was on his way to the front from the 15th starting position. Gill and O達rien went side by for a number of laps until O達rien was able to gain the advantage on lap 16. O達rien went on for the his second win in a row followed by last years point champion Bill Gill, Danny O達rien, Lee Gill and Frank Caprara.

A very strong field on DIRT Sportsman took to the fast 1/2 mile oval for their 15 lap event and it was Anthony Fiorentino and Lance Willix setting the pace. Willix was quick on the start and shot into the lead over Fiorentino and Ben Tucker on lap 1. Willix, who is still searching for his first ever Can-Am sportsman win pulled away early in the event while Tucker and last weeks winner Andrew Howard closed in. The caution flew on lap 9 and Willix saw his chances disappear when he pulled to the pit area with troubles. It was now Howard, Scott MacCue and Tucker left to battle for the lead on the restart but Tuckers motor went up in smoke on lap 10 moving young Adam Moore into the top three. Howard held off the challenges to come across the line in first place but was later disqualified at the post race inspection. MacCue was credited with the unofficial win pending and appeal. Following MacCue was Moore with his best ever Can-Am finish, Scott Britton, Matt Butler and Fiorentino.

Neal Edgar and Rip Hartley showed the way at the start of the 20 lap IMCA Modified special event and it was Edgar grabbing the lead at the drop of the green flag. Edgar had his new car working great as he opened up a lead before the first caution flew on lap 6. On the restart Kevin Battelle made his presence know as he wrestled the lead away from Edgar bringing Ron O誰eil to the front with him. By lap 10 Larry Bezner moved into the second position and battled Battelle for the lead until he spun coming off of turn 4. Defending point champion Cory Fachini was next to fight for the lead but mechanical problems saw him coast to the infield on lap 18. Battelle went on for his first ever Can-Am speedway victory over O誰eil, Rick Dusckas, rookie Doug Ada and Jim Graves.

The Street Stock class grew in numbers this week and it was Steve Rookey and Clint Middlemiss showing the way at the drop of the green. Rookey, who did not make last weeks feature event due to problems in the heat was hoping to make up for it this week by jumping out to the early lead. Rookey looked to have everything going his way until lap 8 when 1999 track champion Bill Eisele pulled along side in the second spot. As the laps wound down Rookey looked like he was on his way to the checked, but as the leaders approached lap traffic on the final lap Rookey went high and Eisele dove low and it was Eisele who picked up the win. Rookey came home second with a excellent run followed by Laurie Handschuh, Andy Wells and Lance Lalonde.

The IMCA Hobby Stocks sent 23 cars to the start for their 10 lap feature with Steve Gilmore and Mark Barker on the front row. Scott Webb was the man on the move on lap one as he shot around the front row starters and into the lead before the completion of lap 1. Webb was challenged for the lead by Chris Warner who came across the line with the top spot on lap 3 but it was Webb charging back to the front on lap 7 with Gary Chant now putting the pressure on. A great race developed for the win between Webb, Chant and last weeks winner Mark Webb. Last week it was Mark Webb taking the trophy home to place on the mantle put this week it was brother Scott taking the honors as he cruised to the win over Chant, brother Mark, Jeff Chapin and Warner.

Next Saturday night will be the annual mothers day special at the speedway being highlighted by the first ever womans enduro. The first enduro of the season at Can-Am will be for lady drivers only as they take to the speedway to show the men how to get around the watered down speedway surface. Next weeks event will be sponsored by Aplpedale Farmers Market and Number 1 Speed Equipment, anyone looking for more information can call the speedway at (315) 658-4431.
