Central PA Speedway and Casteel Chiropractics brought down the curtain on a stellar season and crowned George Fultz, Brent Boyer, Emory Rinehart Jr., Chad Bender and Dennis Asel as North East Region Champions. The race within the race consummated Dwayne Taneyhill in the Budweiser Late Models, Bill Krause in the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds, Denny Fenton in the Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks, Jason Bainey in the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks and Denny Weisgarber in the Pepsi Chargers as 2004 Point Champions.

First to roll onto the racing surface were the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds. With two of the hottest Central PA Speedway modified drivers in Brent Boyer and Shawn Reimert on the front row there was no doubt that excitement would soon follow. At the dropping of the starters green it was a drag race to the first corner and Boyer stuck his machine out front going into the first turn with Reimert and Brad Rapp hot on his tail. By lap number four Barry White made his way around Rapp and looked as though he had some steam left for the leaders. While working lap six, White’s machine rolled to the pits and retired for the evening. Out front Boyer held his advantage over Reimert; again and again Reimert pulled to the rear nerf bar of Boyer but just could not muster the power to get around. On lap sixteen Reimert had a run and tried to get by the leader but lost momentum and Gary Smoker used the high line to move around for the second position. Smoker just as Reimert had was able to get to the leader but just could not find a way around, but a caution with just two laps to go gave Smoker one last shot at the win. On the restart Boyer powered away and never looked back finishing ahead of Smoker, Reimert, Bob Garvey and Bill Krause.

Next onto the track would be the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks for their main event with Chad Bender and Sam McClellan showing the way. At the onset Bender moved to the point followed by Jason Bainey and Frank Little. Bender Bainey and Little would battle nose to tail for several laps with the contenders trying to find away around the leader. With laps winding down bender showed he was the man to beat on this evening as he held off all challenges in route to victory lane. Chasing Bender at the line were Bainey, Little, McClellan and Rick Hemphill.

Jason Walker and Denny Fenton would lead a full field of Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks to the starter’s stripe. With green waving, an incident in the fist turn constituted a complete restart but it would be without the outside front row starter Fenton as he broke an axel. On the restart Walker jumped out front and began to drive away from Scott Stein and Emory Rinehart Jr. After running nose to tail for the first three laps, Rinehart moved to the high line and slipped by Stein and then set his sights on the leader Walker. Rinehart wasted no time in gluing his front bumper to Walkers tail and the duo raced that way for several laps. Pat Carfley battled his way into the fourth position and began to challenge Stein, Bill Henny then moved by Carfley. As Carfley battled back he found he had a tire going down and was forced to the pits. Henny did not waste any time and on lap thirteen put his machine in front of Stein for the third position. Rinehart had been knocking on the door nearly all race long and while working lap sixteen found a way to open it as he moved around walker to claim the lead. Henny took full advantage of the open door and a lap later got by Walker for second. Rinehart would lead the final five circuits but not without heavy pressure from Henny to claim the victory followed by Henny, Walker, Stein and John Wayne Weaver. Jason Walker was the fast qualifier in time trials.

Luke Hoffner and Mike Blose would lead the twenty four fastest steel block Budweiser Late Models trackside for the Tom Neureiter North East Region Championship Memorial. At the waving of Alan Luzier’s green flag, Blose moved to the lead followed by Hoffner who made several good runs trying to get past the leader but came up short. On lap four, eighth place starter George Fultz was a man on a mission and moved by Hoffner for the runner up spot and began to run down the leader Blose. Fultz would not be denied and wrestled the lead away from Blose just two laps later. Once out front Fultz tried to pad his lead but a series of cautions kept the field bunched and ready to take any advantage the leader may make. Eleventh place starter Jason Witherite slid his 24M to the high line and began to move to the front and by lap seventeen had snatched the third position ahead of Hoffner who experienced ignition problems and was retired for the evening. A caution with just two laps to go set up a green, white, checker shootout between Fultz, Blose and Tim Smith. Blose was able to get along Fultz down the front chute on the restart but the leader held him off and went on to garner the Tom Neureiter North East Region Championship Memorial victory. Rounding out the top fiver were Blose, Smith, Jerry Lower and Eric Moore. Mike Blose was the fast qualifier in time trials.

The final race event of the 2004 Central PA Speedway season would roll next with Dennis Asel and Jason Peters showing the way to the starter’s stripe and bounty hanging over the head of Denny Weisgarber. Asel jumped out and opened up a sizable lead when Peters and Weisgarber began to battle for the second position. Asel’s bid to collect the bounty was spoiled when Weisgarber was forced to the pits with a flat tire. Asel would lead the entire distance to pick up the victory over Peters, Brandon Connor, Mike Luzier and Rob Williams.

The Fast & Furious Street Car Challenge held Saturday night was won by Todd Bainey who won out in the final over John Nedza.

Before Sundays racing action began Central PA Speedway flagman Alan Luzier walked through the pits asking all drivers to sign the checker flag that has been used at the speedway throughout the season. At intermission CPS officials called young Billy Auman of Weedville from his perch in turn four where he can regularly be seen waving his set of flags and presented the signed checker flag to him. Billy was extremely happy and thankful. After the presentation Shawn Owens of Shawn’s Towing took Billy for a ride around the racetrack in his newly acquired heavy load tow truck.

Next on the Central PA Speedway racing calendar will be the 2004 banquet. Hard dates and location will be worked out soon. Keep watching www.centralpaspeedway.com for updates and details.
