With skies threatening for a second week in a row, the Central PA Speedway crew marched on and was able to complete the six division program. New winners on the evening were Denny Fenton in the Shortway Services Inc. Pro Street Stocks, Chuck Kennedy in the Budweiser Late Models, Jason Bainey in the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks, Bill Washek in the Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Four Cylinders and Denny Weisgarber in the Pepsi Chargers. Jimmy Holden was the only repeat in the Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds.

Fist onto the racing surface were the Shortway Services Pro Street Stocks being led by Emory Reinhart Jr. and Dan Smeal. With three consecutive cautions before a lap of green flag racing could be completed starter Alan Luzier lined the field in single file formation. With green in the air Denny Fenton wasted no time moving to the front and led lap number one. Fenton's path to victory lane was not an easy task as he had to hold off Rich Howell and then a hard charging Jason Walker. In the end it was Fenton proving to be too strong and took the victory over Walker, Reinhart, Howell and Skip Lindermuth. Grabbing heat race victories were Smeal and Reinhart.

Next on the blocks were the Budweiser Late Models for their twenty lap main event. At the onset Shawn "Sheetz" McGarvey jumped to the point from his second starting position with Matt Gaston and Jerry Lower in tow. A lap two caution took Lower out of the running and bunched the field. McGarvey led until lap sixteen when Chuck Kennedy slipped by to lead and never looked back. Kennedy had to endure a late race caution that put McGarvey on his rear bumper but was able to hold off the challenges to grab his first checkered flag. Following Kennedy at the line were Gaston, last weeks feature winner who started in the thirteenth position Luke Hoffner, McGarvey and Dwayne Taneyhill. Bernie Whiteford, Lower and Jerry Redden won the heats.

Ten Stocker Chevrolet Subaru Small Block Modifieds took to the racing surface with Clarion's Brad Rapp on the pole. Rapp jumped to the early lead with Kevin Dickson and Mark Frankhouser following closely behind. By lap six Jimmy Holden who had been moving through the field arrived in the second position and began to hound Rapp for the lead. Holden was able to make his move while working lap number ten and get by the rookie. Holden drove away from the rest of the field over the final three circuits to claim his second victory of the young season. In victory lane Holden was sure to wish all mothers a happy Mothers Day and wished his own mother a happy birthday. Behind Holden was Rapp, Lyle Sherwood all the way up from the rear of the field, Bill Krause and Frankhouser. Picking up the heats were Frankhouser and Holden.

As the Lias Tire Pure Street Stocks made their way track side you just knew this was going to be an exciting race and from the dropping of the green flag it did not disappoint. Ralph Reed III grabbed the early lead but while working lap number two last weeks feature winner Craig Bainey wrestled the position away and looked to be on his way to an easy victory. Making his way from deep in the pack, Jason Bainey guided his mount to second and with the help of a late race caution was able to put himself in position to challenge his cousin for the victory. Craig Barney’s machine had been showing some smoke for a few laps when while working lap nine it expired and left him trying to coast his way to the pits. Once the green flag was waving again it was clear sailing for Bainey as he successfully held off the challenges of Larry Joiner over the final two laps. The top five behind Bainey were Joiner, Don Geer Jr., Frank Little and Josh Jacoby. Copping heat race victories were Jason Bainey and Rob Bailey.

With the program winding down it was the Sunoco Race Fuels Pro Four Cylinders to take to the surface next. Fourth starting George Bailey was able to sneak by everyone to show the way and lead lap one. Levi Ardrey made a move to the inside of corner one on the second circuit to claim the top spot and brought Bill Washek with him. With Ardrey and Washek battling side by side, something appeared to break on the Ardrey machine sending him to the pits for the evening. Washek was able to keep about a 6 car length lead over Bailey the rest of the distance to pick up his first victory of the season. Following Washek at the line were Bailey, Dan Whiterow, Alan Barnett and Scott McCartney. The heat was won by Ardrey.

The final event of the evening was the first 2004 appearance of the Pepsi Chargers. Randy Reed picked up the early lead but was unable to hold off the "King of the Chargers" Denny Weisgarber. Weisgarber held off the challenges of Reed to post his first victory of the season at Central PA Speedway. Rounding out the top five were Reed, Jason Peters and Mark Segerberg. Reed snatched the lone heat win.

Next weeks racing action will feature the first "King of the Mountain Lias Tire Pure Stock $500 to win Challenge," gates open at 5:00 PM and racing at 8:00PM.

See you all next week at the BIG BEAR!
