LADOUCEURS DOUBLE DIP AT CORNWALL

CORNWALL-It was like father, like son on Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway. Laurent Ladouceur and his son Joey cruised to victories in the Modified and Late Model features respectively on Race for the Children night. It turned in a very important win for Dad in particular in three different ways.

Laurent scored his second win of the season as he quickly worked his way through the field taking the top spot from early leader Tom Jock Jr around the midway point by using the outside groove. Brian McDonald was the main challenger the rest of the way as the two turned laps just a tenth of a second apart but Ladouceur claiming the win. McDonald settled for second in front of Bill Mullin, Stephane LaFrance and Chris Jones. The win, not only vaulted Ladouceur past Mark Hitchcock into the lead in the Modified point standings, it also gave him the victory in the four race Doiron Engineering Cup series.

Joey had an easier time in scoring his first feature win of the year at Cornwall. He took the top spot from pole sitter Steve Johnston, on the second lap and went the rest of the way opening up leads as big as half a lap. Dave Bissonnette was a distant second followed by Gilles Godard, Marc Therrien and Roy Tarbell.

Kees VanWinden took over the top spot in the Duke Stock points parade after taking his 6th feature win of 2002. VanWinden and Gaetan Amesse were hooked up a great battle for the lead until Amesse spun in turn 2. VanWinden had no challengers for the final half of the race. Robbie Ezard, Kevin McRae, Tammy Jalbert and Greg Ezard finished 2nd through 5th respectively. It was a nice comeback for Jalbert who had her bell run in a bone jarring crash during the heats.

The 12 lap Rookie event was marred by a multi car mishap that saw Nico Leblanc roll four times, and Mark Radbourne shaken up by the impact. Kevin Fetterly Jr led every lap enroute to his second feature win. Andrew Russell was second in front of Stuart Mullin, Roch Aubin and Rosco Garreau.

Next Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway features the second appearance of the season by the always popular Empire Super Sprints. There will also be a full program for all four of the regular classes including the Modifieds. The green flag drops at 7pm.
