Gauvreau takes Mr. Radiator 50 lapper at Cornwall

CORNWALL-Eric Gauvreau got the early jump in the five race Mr. Radiator series at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night. The Chelsea QC pilot got past defending series champ Randy Earl of Brockville on a restart with 6 laps remaining and went on to capture the special 50 lap event for Late Models.

The pass came just after Earl had used another restart two laps earlier to take the lead from Gauvreau. Early leader Marc Therrien of Alexandria was third after a good move in the late going to get by Daryl Steele of Renfrew who settled for fourth just in front of a hard charging Denis Gauvreau of Alymer QC. The Mr. Radiator series includes events at Brockville, Edelweiss and Frogtown Speedways with a finale on August 19th at Cornwall.

Sunday night also featured the features rained out from May 27th. In the first Late Model go around.Randy Earl once again showed a flair for the dramatic. Earl slipped by Stephane Lebrun with just two laps to go as the pair went into turn 1 and went on to win his second of the year. Lebrun was second followed by Randy Steele, Todd Fletcher and Denis Gauvreau.

The first Modified feature resumed on lap 9. Eight laps were completed on May 27th when the rains came to the speedway. Brian MacDonald took the advantage on the restart and led for the next 15 laps. MacDonald however got loose in turn 4 and O Brien took advantage to rocket by into the lead and went the distance for the win despite starting 16th in the field. Bill Mullin and Joel Doiron were a strong second and third respectively with Dave Heaslip and Mark Hitchcock rounding out the top 5.

Mullin reversed the tables on O Brien in the second 30 lap event. The two were locked in a classic duel in the last 10 laps with Mullin going from fourth to first with one move on lap 24th and then holding on for dear life from there for his second feature win of the season. Hitchcock slipped past O Brien for second with Laurent Ladouceur of Alexandria and Billy Cook rounding out the top 5

Tammy Jalbert won her first ever Duke Stock feature in the first race. Jalbert, who graduated from the rookie class led wire to wire holding off Al Dion. Gaetan Amesse rounded out the top 3. Stephane Lemire of Drummondville QC took the second main after Stephane Phillipe of Masham QC spun while leading with just lap remaining. Amesse ended up second with Jalbert in third.

Rock Aubin of Alexandria also led from start to finish in taking the first Rookie feature followed by Cornwall’s Chris Tremblay and Roger Phoenix. The second rooke event saw Tremblay win his second of the year in a photo finish over teammate Danielle Legault of Cornwall. Mark Radbourne of Cornwall was third.
