H. J. Bunting Makes It Back To Back Wins In The Twenty-Five Lap Modified Feature
Driver H. J. Bunting (1W), car owner Will Brown, Teene Muir and crew all put together a young boys dream come true. Track Owner Charlie Cathell met on several occasions with Muir to make this wish come true for the year old Garrett Roe. Roe has suffered all his life with health problems after being born 2 months pre-mature. He lost an arm and circulation in his spinal cord affecting the use of his legs; later broken bones, and other surgeries.
His father likes NASCAR and Garrett has grown to love racing as well, to the point he wants to be a driver, own a team or announce a race even someday. Before Saturday night Garret had never been to a dirt track or any race. But with everyone working together Garrett lived part of his dream last night. He got his picture taken with all the drivers, all the winners, ride in a pace car, interviewed for The State News, the Delmarva Sports Action Magazine and be owner of the Big Block # 1W for the night. Garrett was so happy, and just too cool. When asked how he would describe tonight, Garrett, stated, "Awe Man! Fun! Exciting! A lot of souvenirs! It has been just awesome, it was like Christmas here." I hope Garrett visits to keep up with racing around here and email so we can be new friend too. That kid was simply such a inspiration to many in all the hard times going on in the world and US and how he shines above it all.
Glen Reed (35) damaged his car in hot laps and drove Duane Rust Mod (396) for heats while his car was being worked on to see if it could be fixed before the feature. Rick Bishop lost a motor with piston blown in heats.
Millman was on the pole but just as the green waves Foskey looses a left front tire just past turn 4, and manages to hold on to the car and make down the backstretch before coming to a stop; great driving. On the restart, Smith get over top side of turn 2 and heads into the woods by the bill boards. Smith was unhurt. Third time a charm with Millman, Short, Radd, Beau, Simpson. Both Hawkins and Simmons were in the infield by lap 3.
Lap 4 Short pulls along side of Millman in turn 1 but Millman pulled out ahead in turn 2. Lap 5 Short this time takes the lead in turn 2. Lap 7 Short has good lead followed by Beau, Mullins, Millman, & Bunting. Lap 9 the leader are in lap traffic, while Millman and Bunting battling for 5th before Bunting claims it.
At half-way Short leads, Beau, Mullins, Bunting and Wilkins. Laps 15 -16 Bunting and Mullins run side by side with Bunting taking s 2nd now. The leaders are in lap traffic by lap 19 in turns 3 & 4, while Ellsworth almost got around in front of the leaders. Five to go, lap 21 Bunting and Short battle wheel to wheel, while on lap 22 Bobby Wilkins challenges Beau Wilkins for 3rd, lap 23 Bunting takes the lead from Short.
