CALLAWAY CAPTURES MODIFIED LITE FEATURE. By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/5/03) - Former two-time track champion, Craig Mullins inherited the lead late in the race when H.J. Bunting slowed to a stop with mechanical problems. Mullins then held off a determined Ted Taylor to become the first repeat winner in the division this season. Jon Callaway of Harrington, Del. had no problems repeating as he collected his third win of 2003 in the 15-lap Modified Lite feature.

The caution was out at this point when last week's feature winner, Deron Rust, rolled to a stop.

Bunting locked into a battle with Mullins on the restart taking second and then quickly worked by Taylor for the lead on lap seven. The yellow was out again on lap 11 when five cars stacked up in the second turn. Bunting again pulled away under the green and at the halfway sign was followed by Mullins, Taylor, Norman Short, and Rick Bishop in the top five.

Bishop climbed to the fourth spot bringing Beau Wilkins with him into fifth. The yellow came out on lap 19 for Glenn Reed. Under the yellow, the leader rolled to a stop under the flag stand with no power and was done for the night.

Taylor posted a career best finishing in second with Short, Ricky Johnson, and Sparky White in the top five. Sixth through tenth were Wilkins, Judd Mills, Jarrell, Dana Walker, and Tim Millman. Taylor and Bunting won the heats with Johnson taking the consolation.

Herb Tunis looked strong in the Modified Lite feature as he led the first nine laps of the race. At the halfway point Tunis was in control with Landis Musser, Nick Sapp, Bobby Walls, and Jon Callaway filling out the top five.

Callaway mounted a charge on the outside on the restart quickly climbing to second. On lap 11 he used the outside groove to move by Tunis for the lead. Walls was making a late race charge also and took third with two to go and got by Tunis for second on the final lap. Walls was unable to catch Callaway who picked up his third win in the Bennie's Junction/Delmarva RV/Lightning.

Walls, Tunis, Tom Curtis, and Nick Sapp rounded out the top five. Sixth through tenth were Joe Warren, Nick Hendricks, Mike Vammino, Glenn Richards, and Jimmy Ellis. Walls and Callaway won the heats.
