JON KELLNER SR. GETS $10 GRAND FOR FORREST ROGERS MOD WIN

RANDY STOUDT EARNS FIFTH LATE MODEL WIN

BECHTELSVILLE, PA August 7, 2004 . . . Jon Kellner Sr. drove the Cary Duncan owned Hutt’s Glass sponsored modified stock car to victory on Saturday night in the 50-lap Stauffer Construction Forrest Rogers Memorial NASCAR Modified race earning the veteran racer $10,000, the biggest paycheck of his long racing career. And Randy Stoudt made it look easy as he wheeled his Hutt’s Glass sponsored Late Model to victory in the 20-lap main event for NASCAR ShorTrack Late Model stock cars.

The win for Kellner and the fact that point leader Jeff Strunk and challenger Craig VonDohren were involved in an early race multi-car accident that both of them out for the night tightened the chase for the Modified championship at Grandview Speedway. The top four are now Strunk, VonDohren, Meme DeSantis and Kellner.

Jimmy Reppert took the lead on the drop of the green from his pole position and it was Kyle Weiss moving from third to first by the second lap. The Hamburg racer lead the pack, 29 cars started the 50 lap feature, right up to the 23rd lap. It was then that Weiss went wide in the fourth turn, dropping out of action, and Mike Gular took control after having run second for several laps and ran side-by-side with Weiss a couple of times.

But with the caution out for Weiss the field bunched up and Shawn Reimert was along side of Gular for the restart and took over the lead. Reimert looked as if he had the race won until the 41st lap when Kellner was able to move by him in the fourth turn.

Once in front Kellner (Lansale) had his hands full holding the top spot and was just a narrow margin in front when the checkered flag fell. Reimert (Oley) finished second followed by Keith Brightbill (Mohnton), Mike Gular (Harleysville) and Danny Erb (Boyertown).

Less than half of the 29 car starting field were running at the finish due to two multi car wrecks that eliminated several of the top performers.

Buddy Wharton lead the 26 car field to the green for the start of the 20-lap feature for NASCAR Late Models. Wharton was only able to stay in front for two laps before his teammate Kyle Pensinger took control of the race. However Randy Stoudt, coming from ninth starting spot, took the top spot on the 9th circuit of the one-third-mile, banked clay oval and said goodbye to the rest of the competitors.

For the final 10 laps Stoudt had a comfortable lead and at the finish was almost a straightaway in front of second place Ron Kline (Salfordville). Third place went to current point leader Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) followed by Kyle Pensinger (Lyon Station) and Rick Todorow (Quakertown). The win was the fifth for defending champion Stoudt and moved him closer to Schutz in their battle for the title.

Qualifying heat races for the Late Models went to Brian Shuey, Steve Todorow and Chris Shuey. Mike Steinmetz was credited with the Late Model consolation win even though there were no actual laps run. The Jim Brown Cash Dash went to Steve Todorow.

In Modified qualifying events wins went to Kevin Hartnett, Kyle Weiss, Jimmy Reppert, Keith Brightbill and Doug Manmiller. The consolation races were won by Cliff Quinn, Bobby Trapper and Kerry Kratz. Doug Manmiller won the Cheers Tavern Cash Dash.

Fans and racers are reminded that raffle tickets are now available that could win them a trip for two as part of the annual Champion’s Trip in late November. This year the trip goes to Aruba for eight days and seven nights. Raffle tickets for the trip (the trip is valued at more than $3000 and is for two people) are priced at $20.00 each. This Saturday night, August 14, 7:30 p.m., it will be Harry’s U-Pull-It Auto Parts Night with at least 14 events of stock car racing featuring the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds and Late Model stock cars.
