DWYER POST 2ND CAREER MOD WIN AT THE VALLEY SATURDAY NIGHT
July 3, 2004

WEST LEBANON, NY-A huge Fourth of July crowd watched Ron Dwyer led flag to flag in the 30-lap modified feature Saturday night. It was the second career modified victory for Dwyer at Lebanon Valley. The 358-modifieds were on hand for the second time in 2004 and Andy Bachetti won their 24-lap feature. K.C. Goewey put his Team Goewey KIA into victory lane in the 20-lap sportsman feature and Danny Sanchez won the 20-lap pro stock main event. The rookie pro stock feature was won by Steve Hankle. The four pure stock feature winners on Saturday night were, Glenn Miller, Mike Eichstedt, Tom Harkins and Joe Chenail.

On this special holiday weekend Lebanon Valley celebrated all the efforts of the US Armed Forces. The national anthem was sung beautifully by Master Sergeant Amy Giaquinto from the 109th Airlift Wing out of the Stratton Air Base in Scotia, NY. Our sponsors’ for the night were the Freihofer Baking Company, Big Boys Toys, CLS Transportation and Blue Skies Travel.

Two early race incidents in the 30-lap modified feature shook up the point standings dramatically. Donnie Corellis was the point leader coming into Saturday night. He was involved in an incident on the first lap and would be out of the race for good on lap 18 after heavy contact with the turn one wall. Andy Bachetti’s bad luck continues to haunt him as he was out of the race as well on the first lap.

At the front of the pack it was the Promotional Incentives #88 of Ron Dwyer in the lead. He was setting a very fast pace and caught the back of the field by lap six. Last week’s winner, Matt Quinn would not be as fortunate on this night as he pulled pitside on lap nine. Kenny Tremont and Brett Hearn were making the weekly jaunt towards the front of the pack and were fifth and seventh respectively on lap 15.

The second place car of Denny Soltis looked fast in the later stages of the race and it appeared he might be able to catch Dwyer. But even with two late race restarts he could never mount a serious challenge. Dwyer easily took his first win of the 2004 season with his Teo chassis, Bedell-powered racer. "Its awesome to get this second win. After all the bad luck we have I am very happy for myself and all the crew they really deserved this" according to Dwyer after the race. Soltis had another strong top five performance in second. Eddie Marshall continues to impress coming home with a podium finish in third. Tremont finished fourth and Chris Whitehead rounded out the top five.

The 358-modifieds made their second visit of the season for a 24-lap feature on Saturday night. Eddie Marshall was the early race leader until lap six. Andy Bachetti was flying in the Albreada Waste #4 and took the lead on a lap six restart. At the halfway point it was Bachetti, Marshall, J.R. Heffner, Dickie Larkin and Brett Hearn in the top five. Wayne Jelley got around Larkin for fifth on lap 16. One of the best races on the track in the final stages was between Donnie Corellis and Kenny Tremont for seventh. The two raced side to side for several laps with Corellis maintaining the position at the end of the race. At the checkered flag Bachetti had over a half-straight away lead on Marshall. It was a good run for the Goodermote racing stable. Marshall finished second and Heffner finished third. Brett Hearn was fourth by the end of the race and Jelley rounded out the top five.

Walt McKay and Kyle Hoffman both led early in the 20-lap sportsman feature. K.C. Goewey took command of the race on the third lap and would not relinquish the top position the rest of the event. On a lap five restart Art Collins moved into second and Frank Harper moved into third. Problems for Collins on lap 14 as he slowed suddenly on lap 14 and pulled into the pit area with motor problems. Goewey easily took home his third win of the season over Harper, Hoffman, Bobby Knipe and Ed Harkins.

Jay Corbin had a great start to the 20-lap pro stock feature. He rocketed from fifth to first on the first lap and lead until lap eight. Danny Sanchez took command of the race on lap eight A serious of incidents on laps six through none shook up the leader board. Rob Yetman could have been a contender, but a lap nine incident took him, Scott Govertsen and Bill Lobdell out of contention. Buddy Hencke challenged Sanchez several times in the final laps but to no avail as Sanchez took home the victory. Jim Langenback was third, Chris Crews fourth and Corbin finished fifth.
