DOUG MANMILLER AND JASON MILLER WIN FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW
STRUNK IS MODIFIED CHAMPION, SCHUTZ TOPS IN LATE MODELS
BECHTELSVILLE, PA Sept 5, 2004 . . . Doug Manmiller drove the American Dental
Service #00 Modified to his second feature win of the season in the 30-lap Chad Sinon Motorsports/BPG Racing NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. And Jason Miller tabbed his third main event win the 20-lap NASCAR ShorTrack Late Model feature race.
By virtue of a strong third place finish in the feature Jeff Strunk (Bethel) won the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modified Championship for the fourth time during his storied career. Strunk and car owner Chad Sinon, a successful Blue Bell, PA businessman, teamed to win the championship for the second season in a row.
Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) is the NASCAR ShorTrack Late Model champion for the second time at Grandview Speedway.
In the 30-lap Modified feature race John Tschudy was the early frontrunner and looked as if he may have what it takes to win his first career feature victory. The Birdsboro racer set the pace until the midway point. Doug Manmiller coming from 12th took the lead from Tschudy on the 16th lap after a couple of laps of side-by-side action. Multi time track champion Craig VonDohren, making a run for another championship, moved into second, coming from 14th, on the 19th circuit with current point Jeff Strunk in sixth spot. For the final 10 laps Manmiller, who calls Wyomissing home, was able to keep the American Dental Modified in front of the pack and take the checkered flag first to earn the $2200 first place money. Craig VonDohren (Oley) finished with a strong second place effort but it was not enough to grab his sixth track title. Jeff Strunk started 20th and worked his way through the pack to grab a third place finish and retain his championship status for another season. John Tschudy brought his Rossi Welding sponsored entry home fourth for his strongest outing this season at the Berks County oval. Donny Erb (Douglassville) challenged for the top spot early in the race and ran in the top five throughout the entire 30 lap feature earning a fifth place finish.
Meme DeSantis, always a fan favorite, had to take a provisional starting spot in the 30 car feature and then came from 30th to9th for the hard charger effort of the night.
Buddy Wharton brought the 26 car Late Model feature field to the green but his front running spot was short lived as Dean Schaeffer went to the front on the second lap. Jason Miller (New Tripoli) brought the Rothrock Auto Sales #44 to the front of the field on the 6th. Miller got the jump on Schaeffer on a caution restart. Once in front there was no one that could catch him and the veteran racer rode to his third win of the season. Second spot was earned by Rick Todorow (Quakertown) who seemed to be reeling in the leader in the final laps. Third spot in the 20-lap main event went to 2004 Late Model champion Chuck Schutz. The 2003 champion Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) finished fourth with early leader Dean Schaeffer getting fifth place.
Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR ShorTrack Late Models went to Chris Shuey (earning him the biggest share of the bonus bucks put up by Devine Transportation for the Late Models winning the most qualifying events during the NASCAR season), Mike Kellner and Jason Miller. Shuey also won the Jim Brown Cash Dash.
In the preliminary events for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Modifieds wins went to Kyle Weiss, Jimmy Reppert, John Willman, Kenny Gilmore and Danny Erb. Three consolations were need with well over 50 Modifieds in competition. Wins went to Jon Kellner Jr., Keith Brightbill and Jason Smythe. The Cheers Tavern Cash Dash was won by Kyle Weiss.
Just a few raffle tickets are available that could win a trip for two as part of the annual Champion’s Trip in late November (Nov. 27th to December 4th). This year the trip goes to Aruba for eight days and seven nights. Raffle tickets for the trip (the trip is valued at more than $3000 and is for two people) are priced at $20.00 each. About 30 tickets remain available. Each Saturday night stock car feature winner, since June, has received a free chance on the trip courtesy of Ernie Saxton Communications, Inc. The track’s Modified champion, Jeff Strunk, and a guest will participate in the trip as a perk for winning the title and supporting the racing activities at Grandview Speedway.
On Saturday, September 11, 7 p.m. the T.H.Properties Freedom 76 Classic will be presented featuring a 76 lap main event with $20,000 going to the winner. Cheers Tavern will sponsor the Cash Dash worth $1000 for the winner. A full series of qualifying heats and the Schaeffer Motorsports Minuteman 20 will lead up to the feature race. Pre race festivities will start at 3 p.m. including autograph sessions, race car displays, driver interviews and music. Rain date is Saturday, September 18th at 7 p.m.
Fans are invited to sponsor laps for just $10.00 per lap with the money going to the leader of the lap they choose. To sponsor a lap telephone Ernie Saxton at 215.752.7797.
