RACE RECAP
It was a hot and sticky night and the on-track action was just as hot as the air temperature. In the Sportsmen division Dave Rosa edged out Jim Gabriel Jr. by the length of a bumper. Tim French took the Street Stock in a feature that went flag to flag without a caution, while Bill Bailey and Don Hart won the 4 Cylinder and Pure Stock features. Mark Schoonover grabbed the lead at the drop of the green in the 25 lap Modified feature. Schoonover held the lead
for the first eight laps until Robbie Green got the advantage on a restart and moved into the lead. A turn one bobble allowed Chuck Akulis to move past both Schoonover and Mike Clapperton and challenge for the lead. A caution on the twelfth and the ensuing restart gave Clapperton a shot at Akulis and he made the pass for second place. The top three cars opened up a straightaway lead over the rest of the pack and Green coasted to the win. Mike Clapperton finished second with point leader Chuck Akulis third. Mark Schoonover completed a strong run finishing fourth with Bret Belden rounding out the top five.
In the 20 lap Sportsmen feature Billy Walters jumped out to the lead from the pole position. Walters dominated the top spot for the first half of the race until a flat tire sent the 96 pitside. This gave Steve Eldred the lead until the eighteenth lap when Dave Rosa took over. With Jim Gabriel Jr. in second the two leaders swung through turns three and four with the checkered flag waiting. Gabriel pulled along Rosa as they came off the turn but at the Line it was Dave Rosa taking the win by inches over Gabriel. Finishing in third was Steve Eldred with Dave Calaman fourth and Wink Hinkley fifth.
John Walker took the early lead in the twenty lap Street Stock feature. On lap four Tim French took the lead and never
relinquished it. The race ran all twenty laps caution free. Marty Goodwin put on a strong run from his 11th starting spot to
finish second. Gary Roberts returned to action with the BR7 and finished third. John Walker and Jeff Norton round out the
top five.
In the 4 Cylinder feature Jamie Hurlburt went to the lead from his outside pole starting position. By the fourth lap Bill Bailey had toured the way through the field and took over the lead. While Bailey ran away and hid, Jamie Hurlburt and Lisa Jaindl swapped second place back and forth until the later stages of the race when Rich Rought worked his way past the two cars and finished second. Jamie Hurlburt held off Lisa Jaindl for third with Gene Brainard finishing in fifth.
Don Hart took the lead on the second lap of the ten lap Pure Stock feature and was never challenged. Finishing in second was Jim Giles with Dan Howe third, Frank Bonham fourth and Bill Cook fifth.
