MANMILLER AND STOUDT EACH GET FOURTH WIN OF THE SEASON
BECHTELSVILLE, PA JUNE 29, 2002 . . . For the fourth time this season Doug Manmiller and Randy Stoudt were able to visit victory lane at Grandview Speedway. Manmiller took home the $2250 first place in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modified feature, a 30 lapper, and Stoudt was able to earn the top prize in the 20-lap NASCAR Late Model stock car feature. Both events made up Waste Management Night at the one-third-mile, banked clay oval on Saturday night.
Smokey Warren was quick to take the top spot in the Modified main event and with just four laps in the book a multi car accident eliminated Meme DeSantis and put point leader Jeff Strunk at the back of the pack.
With Warren leading lap after lap, Tom Mayberry came to the front and challenged for the top spot at the 16-lap marker. Doug Manmiller had moved into the top five. A caution had Strunk headed for the pits again, back out and then back to the pits through for the night.
On a restart Mayberry took the lead and Kerry Kratz, second in the point chase, went to the pits with no rear bumper out for the night. Mayberry held the number one spot with the A&T Chevy/Tim Long Insurance entry until the final lap.
After swapping the top spot back and forth Manmiller was able to take the top spot, after the two leaders rubbed tires in turn one, running outside of Mayberry in turn two and go on to win by a very narrow margin.
In victory lane Manmiller, celebrating his fourth modified win of the season at Grandview Speedway, gave all the credit to his GMI First Solutions crew. The Sinking Spring racer also had high praise for the track conditions as he took the top money for the second week in a row. Tom Mayberry (Sellersville) finished second. Terry Meitzler (Kutztown) earned third followed by Keith Brightbill (Mohnton) and Smokey Warren (Jonestown) who had lead the first 18 laps.
Despite his hard luck and early exit from the feature Jeff Strunk was still able to hold on to the lead in the chase for the rich NASCAR and Grandview Speedway point titles.
In the 20-lapper for the NASCAR Late Models Mike Steinmetz put his TV51 entry in front of the pack at the drop of the green. On the second lap Ed Trimbur was able to take command of the race and was the leader until the midway point. After a couple of cautions, Randy Stoudt, who came charging up from 10th starting spot, took the lead from Trimbur and built up a commanding lead. The Pottstown racer had the Rogers Auto Parts #22 in front by a straightaway at times.
Stoudt took the victory followed by Ed Trimbur (Eagleville) with an impressive second place effort. Third was earned by Jason Miller (Germansville) followed by Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) who made a strong run for the front in the closing laps. Fifth place was taken by Ron Kline (Salfordville) in a six cylinder powered racer.
Qualifying events for the NASCAR Modifieds were won by Kevin Hartnett (Perkasie), Rick Schaffer (Woxall), Tracy Readinger (Oley) and Jamie Mills (Delaware). The consolation events, with 51 cars in the pits, were won by Keith Brightbill and Jeff Strunk. The top five in points all had to qualify through the consolation events.
The Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash was won by Jamie Mills.
In Late Model qualifying action wins were earned by Ed Trimbur, Mike Steinmetz (Reading) and Randy Stoudt. The consolation race went to Chris Wojnar (Lansdale)
