JEFF STRUNK AND RANDY STOUDT KICK OFF NEW SEASON WITH
VICTORIES AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 6, 2002 ..... In hockey it would
have been called a "hat trick", in auto racing it is usually
called a clean sweep and that is what Jeff Strunk enjoyed on
Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.
The former track champion won the 40-lap Trevdan
Building Supply NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by
Dodge Modified stock car feature race plus his qualifying
heat and the Cash Dash.
In the 20-lap feature for NASCAR Late Models Randy
Stoudt was able to run away from the field to earn the
opening night victory.
Twenty nine Modifieds took Donnie Miller's green flag in
below freezing temperatures. The cold weather did not seem
to bother Kenny Gilmore as he put the Airport Hotel #7 in
front of the pack and set the pace for three laps. Terry
Meitzler in a new ride, the Lou Cozze owned Giels Automotive
#61, took command on the fourth circuit of the one-third-
mile clay banked oval. At the midway mark Jeff Strunk, who
had powersteering problems early in the event, came up to
challenge the leader and take the lead on a caution restart.
Once Strunk and the Cummins/Valvoline #9 were in front, the
popular Bethel,PA racer was able to hold off all challengers
to grab the season opener.
Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville) came on strong in the final
laps to gain a strong second place finish with the Hatfield
Meats/Steve's Corner Deli #87. Terry Meitzler (Kutztown),
who lead many laps of the feature, had to settle for third
followed by defending champion Craig VonDohren (Oley) and
Rick Schaffer (Woxall).
Randy Stoudt, in a new ride (a deal put together just a
short time before opening night), was able to get out front
of the 28 car starting field on the third lap and that is
where he stayed for the entire 20-lap feature for NASCAR
Modifieds. Early leader Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) gave
chase for much of the race but neither he nor young Sam
Schlosberg (Green Lane) were able to catch Pottstown based
Stoudt in the chase for the season opening win.
Stoudt and Schlosberg did battle for second spot with
multi time champion Dean Stoudt, not related to the winner,
able to hold on for a runnerup finish. Schlosberg grabbed
third followed by Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) and defending
champion John Durling (Reading).
Qualifying heats for the NASCAR Modifieds went to Kenny
Gilmore, Sam Schoenly, Jeff Strunk, Terry Meitzler and Ryan
Watt. The consolation event victories were earned by Rick
Schaffer, Tom Mayberry and Donny Erb. Jeff Strunk picked up
$425 for the Cash Dash win.
Ron Kline won the first qualifying heat for the Late
Models while Dean Stoudt and former champion Lou Egrie took
the top spots in the other heat races.
Close to 90 cars were on hand for the two division show
which was run in sub-freezing temperatures. Track conditions
were excellent for the 14 event show.
"The fans who came out for this racing show,
temperatures were sub-freezing, should get an award. At
least they get a big thank you from all of us at Grandview.
It was a wonderful night of racing despite snow flurries
coming down just before the first heat got started. And the
track crew did a fantastic job of keeping the track in
excellent condition," said Ernie Saxton, track announcer and
public relations person.
The Timber Wolf Hard Charger Award was shared by both
Rick Schaffer and Jon Kellner in the NASCAR Modified
feature. Each driver gained 16 positions in the feature race
and will share the $200 Timber Wolf award.
NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Modifieds
and Late Models return to action on Saturday, April 13, 6
p.m. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. At least 12 events of exciting
stock car racing with a 30-lap feature for Modifieds and 20-

27. CFFC is one of the largest and oldest auto racing fan
clubs in the nation. Their benevolent fund helps racers in
need in all types of auto racing. CFFC will be honoring
featuring winners and offering memberships to fans and racers
