KENNY BRIGHTBILL RACES TO MODIFIED STOCK CAR WIN ON SAMMONS MEMORIAL NIGHT AT

EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Popular dirt track Modified stock car driver Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa. raced to his second main event win of the season during "Len Sammons Memorial Night" action at the East Windsor Speedway Friday. The victory helped Brightbill stay in the Modified point lead where he is seeking his fourth speedway driving title.

Jeff Parker was the early leader of the Modified 25-lapper, before Steve Moss took control on lap four. Former champ Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. was on the move, however, as he took over the lead on lap seven after charging from 12th on the starting grid.

Hoffman paced the field through lap 19, often fighting off lapped traffic, while Brightbill finished his run to the front from an 18th starting slot. Brightbill began to close on the leader as the race neared the 20 lap mark, but Hoffman soon slowed with mechanical troubles and Brightbill motored on into the lead.

From that point on it was all Brightbill for the win, with Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station, second and Frenchtown's Billy Pauch, third. Steve Moss of Bridgewater, the first non-winner across the finish line, pocketed a $150 bonus from the Sammons family in addition to his purse winnings for this fourth place finish. Ryan Kerr of Stockton was fifth.

Joey Tinnes of Bradley Gardens powered to the front on lap two of the companion Sportsman feature race and then survived many cautions to grab his first career East Windsor Speedway victory. That performance earned him a $300 bonus from the Sammons family on top of first place money.

In a tight battle for second, defending Sportsman champ Art Liedl, Jr. of Flemington grabbed the spot over Hurffville's Richie Pratt, Jr. and Jim Spence of New Egypt. Brian Pearson of Red Lion was fifth.

Former driving champ Kim Cooke of Hamilton grabbed his first main event win in over two years in the Street Stock 15-lapper. Cooke's 20th career victory was impressive as he stretched an advantage on many occasions. Carol Whitehouse of Hamilton was second, while Norm Saxton crossed the finish line third before being disqualified for rough riding. That moved Wall's Rob Ormsbee to third, while Paul Marra, Jr. and Ron Barnstead, both of Bordentown, were fourth and fifth.

Friday night racing continues weekly at the East Windsor Speedway with the first green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. This Friday evening, August 23, the Modifieds battle in a 25-lap main event, with the Sportsman cars racing 20-laps and the Street Stocks competing in a 15-lapper. Qualifying heat races are planned for each division.
