TREMONT WINS SECOND, PERFECT, SO FAR AT VALLEY IN 1999

APRIL 24, 1999

WEST LEBANON, NY- Kenny Tremont came back from a first lap crash to win the 30-lap modified feature Saturday night at Lebanon Valley. Bob Duzlak took the lead from his brother, Ricky, to win the 20-lap street stock feature. Ken Goewey Dodge was the evening's sponsor.

Disaster would strike early in the 30-lap modified feature. At least twelve cars were involved in an accident of the backstretch on the first lap of the main. Included in the incident were Kenny Tremont, Donnie Corellis, Dickie Larkin, Tim Dywer, Maynard Forrette and many others. Tremont and Corellis would return to the feature and both would finish well. When the dust cleared Rich Ricci Jr would take command of the event with Dave Leckonby in hot pursuit. Russ Reckner would brush the turn two wall, but continue at speed. The second caution would fly on lap two as John Hewitt spun in turn one.

The restart would see Leckonby jump out into the lead, but the yellow flag flew immediately. The officials felt that Leckonby had jumped the start and he was sent to the rear as a result. Eddie Marshall would jump into second on the restart with J.R. Heffner third. Tremont would work his way up to ninth by lap four. The yellow would wave again on lap four as Mike Ricci spun in turn one. Tremont would move all the way up to fifth on the restart. Marshall would begin to challenge Ricci for the lead on lap six. Mike Benson would slow on the backstretch on lap seven causing another yellow flag.

Dave Leckonby worked his way back through the field and was up to seventh by lap eight. Heffner had snuck by Marshall earlier for second and began to challenge Ricci for the lead. Heffner would grab the lead on lap eight, while Tremont would take second that same lap. Tremont would pass Heffner on lap nine for the lead. The yellow would fly again on lap nine as Jody Tornabene made heavy contact with the turn two wall. Marshall would grab third on lap ten. The top five at halfway were Tremont, Heffner, Marshall, Rich Ricci and Tim Dwyer.

Tremont would encounter some light lapped traffic by lap 16. Ricci would get by Marshall for third by lap 18. Corellis worked his way back from that initial accident to be fourth by lap 19. Leckonby would take over sixth by lap 20 and move up to fifth on a lap 20 restart. Marshall would drop out of the feature on lap 22 with mechanical difficulties. Ricci would get by Heffner in the late stages of the feature, while Tremont checked out on the point. Tremont had almost a full straightaway lead by lap 27. Tremont would easily take home his second Valley win of 1999. Rich Ricci would finish second, Heffner third, Corellis fourth and Leckonby fifth.

Ricky Duzlak led the first four laps on the 20-lap street stock feature. The only caution of the race would come on lap three. The restart would see Ricky and his brother, Bob Duzlak together on the front row. Ricky was able to hold his brother off for one lap, but Bob would take the lead by lap four. Robbie Speed narrowly avoided disaster when he brushed the backstretch wall on lap five. Speed lost several positions but continued at racing speed. Jim Lagenback would begin to challenge Ricky for second on lap seven. Lagenback would take the second spot by lap eight. As the field crossed the stripe for halfway, Bob Duzlak was first, Lagenback second, Ricky Duzlak third, Goversten fourth and Butch Irwin fifth.

Scott Goversten would have to make a pitstop on lap 11 with a right front flat tire. The top three cars would begin to pull away by lap 13. Lagenback would try to take away the top spot from Duzlak on lap 14. Duzlak would hold strong to the challenge and continue to lead the race. T.R. Bortle would explode a motor on lap 15. Bobby Blackburn was moving up in the late stages. He would get as high as fourth on lap 16 before fading into the back of the top ten at the finish. Ricky Duzlak would also see a good run fade late in the event as he began to smoke on lap 17. Bob Duzlak would cruise home for his first win of 1999. Lagenback would finish third and Butch Irwin third. Robbie Speed would recover from his early brush with the wall to finish fourth and Ray Hall would round out the top five.

Next week is Ronnie's Cycle and Steve Hough Motor's night. It will be opening night for the sportsman and IMCA modifieds. Modifieds, Street and Pure Stocks will also be on hand. Race time is 6:15.
