JOEY LADOUCEUR WINS MR. RADIATOR SERIES RACE AT FROGTOWN
Joey Ladouceur of Alexandria, Ontario proved to be a dominating force in the Pro Stock class in the Northern part of the DIRT circuit as he took the win in the Mr. Radiator Series race at Frogtown International Speedway this past Saturday night.
A star studded field of 28 Pro Stocks took to the speedway for the Legends and Spirits / Mr. Radiator 35 lap main event with young Clayton Benedict and Joey Ladouceur starting on the front row with Ladouceur grabbing the lead. Mitchell Jock and Gilles Godard decided to put the heat on Ladouceur early and moved up quickly to take over second and third on lap #8. First Mitchell Jock put the pressure on Ladouceur a couple of times pulling along side the #92.1. On lap #9, Gilles Godard got by his JR Fuels teammate and tried his luck but not matter what he tried, he still could not make the pass. Jock was able to get by Godard once again in lap #15 and tried Ladouceur again but still could not get by despite pulling along side the #92.1 a couple more times. After 17 laps of racing, it was Ladouceur still leading with Mitchell Jock, Gilles Godard, Billy "The Kid" King and Clayton Benedict rounding out the top five.
Jock continued to pressure Ladouceur for the lead but Joey was just to quick and smooth and in the end prevailed for the win. Mitchell Jock gave one of his best efforts of the season but just could not make the big move he so much wanted and settled for second. Billy "The Kid" King got up for third with Clayton Benedict and Greg Snyder rounding out the top five.
In the first running of the "Legends and Spirits" 25 for the 358 Modifieds, Mark Hitchcock of Kingston, Ontario made it two in a row at "The Frog" and sent a message to his fellow competitors that he is still in contention for the point title.
Mark Smoke and Tom Jock, Jr. started on the front row of the event with Jock grabbing the lead. The second-generation driver was hooked up perfectly and looked like he might be a good bet to end up in the winner’s circle but Doug Fuller of Edwards, New York and Hitchcock had other ideas. In the early going at one point Jock appeared to be pulling away but a couple of cautions took that nice lead that Tom had built up away. On lap #12, Fuller caught Jock for the lead. A tacky surface is just what the long time veteran had been waiting for and after grabbing the lead looked like he might be the man to beat. At the halfway mark, it was Fuller leading followed by Mark Hitchcock, Tom Jock, Jr., George "Boomer" McIntyre and the always-persistent Dan Jalbert.
McIntyre and Fuller staged a heated battle for second that had the Frogtown faithful standing and cheering with Boomer getting by Fuller on the last lap. Hitchcock went on for the win with Boomer McIntyre finishing second. Doug Fuller held on for third with Leon Gonyo having yet another great run and finishing 4th. Jeff Sykes rounded out the top five.
In the Semi Pro division, it was Pete Backus picking up the win but not before veteran racer Dick Planty and newcomer Caleb Bradley had a say in the matter. Backus took the lead from early race leader John Bashaw on lap #2 and had numerous challenges from Planty throughout the race but still hung on for the win. Planty finished second with Caleb Bradley finishing third. John Bashaw and Kevin Fetterly, Jr. rounded out the top five.
In the exciting Bandit division, Cornwall, Ontario native Kurtis McPhee seems to be the "Bandit to beat" in the area. McPhee grabbed the lead from first lap leader Jeb Beeson and fought off Dan Lortie in heavy traffic to take the win. Lortie ran a great race to finish second with Billy "Woo Woo" Woodward finishing third. Jeb Beeson and Ernie Cree rounded out the top five.
In the Enduro feature, it was Ricky Thompson avoiding a number of incidents that happened right in front of him to take home the win in the 20 lap special and pickup up $100.00 for his effort. Steve Green managed to get second with Donald Delormier, Steve Bushey, Jr. and Tyson Cole rounding out the top five.
Despite two rain delays, Track Superintendent Dennis White and his track crew are to be commended for getting the show in when it looked like things might not happen. Just a great job guys!
We would also like to thank the "good times people" at Legends and Spirits for their sponsorship and dedication to racing.
Next Saturday night it will be Big Boyz Gas and Street Wear night at the speedway featuring a 17-lap mid-summer championship race along with a Bandit Autograph session just before the start of the race.
