JEFF SYKES WINS 358 MODIFIED FEATURE AT FROGTOWN

Jeff Sykes of Edwards, New York picked up his first win of 2002 in the 358 Modified division on Mac Tools, Mohawk Springs Water and Village Hobby and Trophy Shop night at the speedway.

Mike Reyell and Craig Ormsby started on the front row of the 25 lap main event with Ormsby grabbing the early lead. Mark Smoke in the #9 Truck Stop car #9 brought out the first caution of the race as he got turned around facing the wrong way on the front stretch.

On the restart Dave Heaslip grabbed the lead followed closely by Doug Fuller, Craig Ormsby, Chris Jones, and Jeff Sykes who started 12th in the field and had already worked his way into the top five. Heaslip continued to lead until lap #9 when Sykes grabbed the lead followed by Heaslip, Mike Perrotte who had come charging up through the pack from his 14th starting position Doug Fuller and Brian McDonald who also had made a great run from his 11th starting spot.

On lap #11, Perrotte made his move first getting by Heaslip and then getting by Sykes with a slick move as well. But on lap #13, Sykes came storming back with a great move to recapture the lead. After 14 laps, Sykes was still the leader with Perrotte second, Doug Fuller third, Dave Heaslip fourth and Chris Jones who had been very consistent throughout the first part of the race now finding himself in the top five. On lap #16, Doug Fuller got by Perrotte for second and set his sites on running down the speedy Sykes. On lap #22, the caution flew once again which put Fuller within striking distance of Sykes.

On the restart, Fuller pulled along side and made one last effort to get by but Jeff held his ground and went on for the win. Doug Fuller settled for second with Mike Perrotte hanging in for third, Mark Hitchcock came from 6th in the last 3 laps to get up for 4th with Dave Healip rounding out the top five.

In the DIRT Pro Stock division, it was a battle between two of Frogtown's crowd favorites Jody Swamp and Louie Jackson. Swamp lead for a long time and looked like he may be headed for his first feature win in a long time but on lap #16, Jody got high in turn #4 and Jackson was able to slip underneath and go on for the win. Swamp finished second with Gilles Godard who came from the back after and early race spin to finish third in the event as Scott Kocher and Dave Bissonnette rounded out the top five.

In the Semi Pro division, Greg Snyder picked up his second win in a row after fighting off Semi Pro rival Jeff Marshall for the win. Jamie Martin of Fort Covington grabbed the early lead and led the race until lap #5 when Snyder got by and stayed there the rest of the way. Jeff Marshall made many attempts to get to Snyder but had to settle for second. Pete Backus, Jamie Martin and Creig Donnelly rounded out the top five.

In the Bandit division, Roch Aubin picked up the win after some supurb driving in traffic. Mark Radbourne made his first appearance at the speedway this season and picked up second with Kevin Fetterly, Jr., Nick Mallette and Danielle Legault rounding out the top five.

In the popular Enduro class, it was Ricky Thompson getting up for the win with Leon Delormier finishing second, last weeks feature winner Dillon Cole was third with Brandon Snyder and Owen White rounding out the top five.

Next week it will be Lazore's Construction night at the speedway featuring the "Great American Dump Truck Race" at intermission. The Winged Sprinters will also be added to a regular card of racing.
