DAVE HEASLIP WINS FIRST 358 MODIFIED FEATURE OF 2001 AT FROGTOWN
Hogansburg, NY - Dave Heaslip of Smith Falls, Ontario looked like a rocket sled on wheels at Frogtown International Speedway last Saturday night picking up his first win of the 2001 season at Frogtown.
Sandy Roberts and Larry Welling, Jr. started on the front row of the Iroquois Water/LaFrance Performance 25 lap main event with Sandy Roberts grabbing the early lead. Unlike other weeks, Mike Perrotte, Dave Heaslip, Mark Hitchcock and Leon Gonyo took advantage of three early race cautions to make their move past a number of cars early in the race and found themselves in the top eight cars after just six laps of racing. Roberts hung on to the lead until lap six when Mark Hitchcock took over with Mike Perrotte close behind. Heaslip got by Perrotte for second on lap #8 and began to set his sights on Hitchcock for the lead.
On lap #9, Heaslip moved by Hitchcock for the lead. The brand new ride for "the Slip" was running great and was turning in some tremendous lap times besides. Hitchcock, Perrotte and Jeff Sykes tried to stay close but Dave was just to quick and went on to the victory. Mark Hitchcock finished second with Jeff Sykes, Mike Perrotte and Larry Welling rounding out the top five.
In the 20 lap Pro Stock main event, Billy "the Kid" King turned in a great performance to take the win. King and Scott Kocher started on the front row with King grabbing the lead. Even though he lead all twenty laps of the event, it wasn't before he received a couple of challenges. First early in the race from Mitchell Jock who retired to the pits early with mechanical problems and later in the race when Louie Jackson pulled along side King on a couple of restarts. King survived one more challenge by Jackson going in to turn #1 on the last lap of the race and went on for the win. Louie Jackson, Tim Allen, Brian Loeb and Casey Swamp rounded out the top five.
In the Semi Pro main event, it was Jeff Marshall putting things all together to get the win. Kevin Mayville and Tom Chubb started on the front row of the Semi Pro feature with Mayville grabbing the early lead. Jeff came from his 3rd starting spot to grab the lead on lap #4 followed by Pete Backus, Chubb, Jamie Martin and Steve Brand. Backus tried to stay close throughout the race but Marshall was just to quick and went on for the win. Pete Backus finished second with Tom Chubb, Steve Brand and Mike Tremblay rounding out the top five.
In the Bandit feature, Ron Tyo in a brand new ride brought home the win. Ron Sharlow grabbed the early lead only to have Tyo take the lead in lap #4. Tyo was pressured throughout the race by Kevin Fetterly, Jr., Chris Tremblay and Sharlow but managed to hold off the three top racers for the win. Kevin Fetterly, Jr. continued his consistent finishing ways by getting second place with Chris Tremblay, Ron Sharlow and Mike Jolicoeur rounded out the top five.
In the 20 lap Enduro feature, it was Ryan Phillips brining home the win with Ronnie Thompson finishing second and Robbie Cook in third.
We would like to thank Iroquois Water and LaFrance Performance for a great evening of racing.
