McDONALD GETS BIRTHDAY WIN AT FROGTOWN

HOGANSBURG, NY - Brian "Slim" McDonald celebrated his birthday in style by winning the Village Hobby and Trophy 25-lap 358 Modified main event at Frogtown International Speedway Saturday night. In other action, Eric Gauvreau won both Pro Stock features, Richard Charbonneau won the Semi-Pro, Kurtis McPhee and Richard Brunelle split Bandit features and Kevin Mayville won the Enduro.

Tom Jock led the first two laps of the Modified feature event, but Brian McDonald move to the top spot on lap three and pulled away from Jock. Dave Heaslip moved up to third on lap five and passed Jock for second on lap seven. A lap nine restart saw the night's most serious incident as the field moved to speed coming out of turn four and Dave Heaslip was tapped from behind and spun in front of the entire field. This triggered a multi-car pileup and in the ensuing melee Bill Woodward rolled. While all drivers walked away, the wreck eliminated Woodward, Craig Ormsby, Gilles Perrault and Simon Marcoux.

When racing resumed, McDonald pulled ahead with Tom Jock back in second spot. Mike Perrotte moved up to the third spot, with Jerry Skebo and Kevin Fetterly close behind. Dave Heaslip, charging from the back of the field, rocketed into fourth on lap 21. McDonald easily pulled ahead to claim the win, while Jock scored a season-best second spot. Perrotte held third until turn four when he and Heaslip tangled, with Heaslip holding control to finish third; Perrotte slid into the infield and finished seventh.

After a disappointing disqualification after winning last week's 50-lap Summer Championship, Eric Gauvreau won both Pro Stock feature events. In the first feature, a make-up event, brother Denis Gauvreau finished second with Al Pitts of Potsdam third, while in the second Pro Stock main, Gauvreau held off Pitts in the race's final laps. After Pitts in second, Marc Therrien of Alexandria, ONT finished third, with Bill King of Hogansburg and Scott Kocher of Waddington rounding out the top five. Over twenty Semi-Pro cars took the green in a wild event that saw Autodrome Edelweiss regular Richard Charbonneau move to the top spot on lap two and go on to get his first feature win. Lou Jackson raced hard to earn second with Andy Heywood third.

In the Bandits, Kurtis McPhee won the make-up feature with Westville's Bryan Loeb and Long Sault, ONT's Richard Brunelle hounding McPhee for the win. In the second Bandit feature, Richard Brunelle came on for the win, much to his pleasure after losing a win due to a disqualification the week before. Once again Bryan Loeb was second, with McPhee third.

Kevin Mayville of Fort Covington won a shocker in the Enduros as Jimmy Herne looked like he had the race won when his car stopped just fifty feet short of the waving checkered flag. Herne watched helplessly as Mayville made up two laps to grab the win.

Tuesday night, August 17th is the 99-lap Advance Auto Parts SuperDIRT 358 Series race for the Modifieds, along with extra distance races for the Pro Stocks, Semi-Pro and Bandits. Presented by A&M Beverage of Malone, racing gets underway at 7:30 PM. Next Saturday, August 21st, Agway Energy Products presents a full program of racing, including a Demo Derby and Semi-Pro autographs added to the Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Semi-Pro, Bandits and Enduro cars. Racing action gets underway at 7:30 PM.
