HEOTZLER WINS 2ND ORANGE COUNTY MODIFIED TITLE

Middletown, NY: Jeff Heotzler of Wallkill, NY over took point leader Frank Jashembowski in the first big block feature and then nailed down his 2nd track title by capturing the 2nd main event to claim his 2nd title here. In the holdover feature from last week, Steve Dodd of Middletown, NY became the only driver to win more than once in the modified division this season taking the Goldenarea Furniture/Leisuretime Deck 30 lap event. Heotzler's 6th place finish gave him a 10 point lead entering the nightcap.

In the Torrisi Agway point season finale, Heotzler took the lead from Bill Wilson after a lap 17 restart and then won going away. Heotzler stopped a three year championship run by Chuck McKee who finished 2nd in points. Heotzler's other Modified championship came in 1997.

In the WLR Construction 30 lap feature for the 358 Modifieds, Chuck McKee of Middletown, NY won his 2nd feature of the season. Tommy Meier of Waldwick, NJ claimed the track title for his first open wheel championship. David Van Horn, who finished 3rd, picked up the guaranteed spot for Syracuse during Super DIRT Week.

The Expert Pro Stocks saw John Bryson of Croton Falls, NY outrun Bob McGannon to the wire in the 20 lap feature. As a result, Bryson won his first track title here by a slim 2 point margin over McGannon. Dan Kelleher of Carmel, NY was victorious in the 18 lap Rookie Pro Stock main, but came up short to Marty Pender of Shenorock, NY who took the class title.

Championships for the DIRT Sportsman and Pure Stocks were put on hold by the late hour. Both divisions will settle their championships on September 27th when Orange County hosts both DIRT Sportsman and Pro Stock Tour events.

Racing returns this week with the Festival of Crashes. A N.E.E.T.S. 100 lap Enduro, "The Botanical" ladies Enduro, a 4 cylinder Enduro, the final event in the Chet's Garage Demo Derby Series and fireworks will make up the program starting at 6:30 pm.
