RAY JASHEMBOWSKI BORROWS CAR, WINS CAREER FIRST
Middletown, NY: Sophomore driver Ray Jashembowski of Howells, NY won his first career big block feature Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway. Borrowing a car from Al Johns, Jashembowski took the lead on lap 5 of the 30 lap Pike Underground 30 lap event. He then had to fend off Jerry Higbie before he could claim his first win. There have been 12 different big block winners in 12 events so far this season. Frank Jashembowski took over the point lead when point leader Jeff Heotzler broke with 2 laps remaining and defending champion Chuck Mckee suffered two right rear flats and lost a lap in the pits. Tim Hindley, Butch Tittle and Craig Mitchell completed the first five.
Jeff Heotzler of Wallkill, NY won the 25 lap 358 modified feature with a last lap pass of Chris Shultz. It was Heotzler's first win since last year and the 21st of his career. He now ties Robbie Green for 5th on the all time win list here. Tommy Meier remained on top of the point standings with one event left. Mike Depalma, David Van Horn, and Meier filled out the balance of the top five.
Jamie Yannone of Newburgh, NY won his 2nd DIRT Sportsman feature of the season leading wire to wire. Neil Harris, Rick Mill, Bobby Hentschel and Rich Coons chased him across the line. Joe Dunay's point lead was cut to ten points over Rick Mill when Dunay finished last.
The Expert Pro Stock 20 lap main event was taken by Jamie McGannon of Pomona, NY for his 2nd win of the season. His brother Bob McGannon took over the point lead by two from John Bryson. It was win number 3 on the season for first year Rookie Pro Stock driver Jim Hajkowski of Patterson, NY. Marty Pender still maintains the point lead. The Barmann Equipment Dash For Cash for the Pro Stocks featured the top 3 in points from each class. The 4 lap sprint was taken by Hajkowski over Scott Kehr, John Bryson, Dan Kelleher, Bob McGannon and Pender.
Split features for the Pure Stocks were run for the first time this season with Emerson Cargain, Sr. of Mahopac, NY and Ray Tarantino of Pleasant Valley, NY taking 12 lap wins. It was the second for each driver. Tarantino jumped back on top of the close points chase with two weeks remaining.
Racing returns Saturday night with the Modifieds, DIRT sportsman, Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks in competition. A Chet's Garage Demo Derby Series event is also on the schedule with racing beginning at 6:30 pm.
