GOODRICH AND HEARN CLOSE OUT OCFS POINT SEASON
Middletown, NY: Scott Goodrich, of Middetown, NY won the point season finale for the big block modifieds at the Orange County Fair Speedway Saturday night. It was the the 2nd win of the season for Goodrich who inherited the lead on lap 10 of the 35 lap WLR Construction main event when leader Bud Christmann suffered a flat tire. Chuck McKee, of Middletown, NY clinched his 2nd consecutive track title when he took the green, finished 2nd. Jerry Higbie, last week's winner Bill Wilson, and Frank Jashembowski completed the top five.
Winning the 30 lap Torrisi Agway 358 modified feature was Brett Hearn of Vernon, NJ. Hearn took command on lap 7 and coasted home in front of Tom Hindley, Donnie Elliott, Randy Sherlock and Tommy Meier. It was Hearn's 4th win of the season and 101st of his career here. Hindley picked up the guaranteed spot for the small block modified race at Syracuse during Super DIRT Week as Hearn already had a qualifying spot. With his 6th place finish, Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Ma. won his 2nd consecutive small block title.
The 20 lap DIRT Sportsman feature was taken by Skip Travis of Verplanck, NY. He led wire to wire to win for the 2nd time this season. Mark Hufcut of Pine Bush, NY claimed his 1st ever track title as he came home 10th. The Expert Pro Stock division saw Bob McGannon of Pomona, NY pick up his 2nd win of the campaign. By starting the event, Andy Dembek, Jr. of Goshen, NY became the class champion.
It was his first title in the division though he was the rookie class champion in 1995. In the Rookie class, Bob Waters, Jr. of Stony Point, NY claimed his 3rd win of the season, but the class championship went to second finishing Pete Goydich of Florida, NY.
Al D'Antonio of Highland Lakes, NJ wrapped up the Pure Stock title two weeks ago, but he capped a ten win season with the a win in a backup car in the 12 lap feature.
This Saturday night finds the first CHET'S GARAGE Night of Destruction. A 75 lap enduro, Ladies Enduro, a Demo derby and a four cylinder demo derby will be on the card with the program starting at the usual 6:30 pm starting time. A display of fireworks will concluded the evening's activities.
The track will then be closed until the 40th annual Eastern States Weekend takes place beginning on Friday, Oct. 19 and running through Sunday, October 21.
