CLASSIC WIN AT OCFS: SHULTZ SURPRISES HEARN
Middletown, NY: It will go down as one of the all time classic events at the Orange County Fair Speedway. Rookie Modified driver Chris Shultz of Holmes, NY surprised veteran all time modified feature winner Brett Hearn in the final corners of the 30 lap feature Saturday night and took his second career win.
Hearn, who started 11th and inside of Shultz for the 30 lap Barmann Equipment feature, , took the lead on lap 23 from Frank Jashembowski. On lap 26, Shultz was under Jashembowski for the runner up spot as the race remained green. Shultz then closed ground on Hearn working through lap traffic. On the final lap, Hearn went to the inside in turns 3 and 4.
Shultz then appeared on the outside, boxing Hearn in against a lapped car as the pair negotiated turns 3 and 4. Shultz then powered off turn four and raced to his 2nd career win in 9 attempts. On May 19, Shultz held off Hearn on a one lap dash to the checkers to win his first big block main.
The Torrisi Agway 20 lap DIRT Sportsman feature saw Mike Kolka of Middletown, NY claim his first checkered flag. Kolka took the lead on a lap 3 restart and led the way until the checkered fell. David Van Horn, bobby Hentschel, Rick Mill and Jimmy Johnson were the next runners across the line.
Winning his first 14 lap Expert Pro Stock feature in several years was Barry Filipowski of Greenville, NY. Dave Hoogerheyde of Lake Stockholm, NJ won his first ever 10 lap Rookie Pro Stock feature.
Al D'Antonio of Highland Lakes, NJ continues to master the Pure Stock division as he claimed his 6th win in 9 races this season. He needed the final turns of this one to accomplish the feat as he powered inside of 2nd finishing Mitch Frank to claim his 23rd career win.
The Barmann Equipment Dash for Cash for the Pro Stocks was taken by Tom Dembek of Middletown, NY over Chris Feola, Bob Waters, Jr., Dave Hoogerheyde, and Paul Maiolo.
Racing resumes this Saturday night with a regular program of Mdofieds, DIRT Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Pure Stocks. The first event in the Chet's Garage Demo Derby Series will take place with the first Demo Derby of the season. Racing begins at the usual 6:30 pm starting time.
