SHULTZ EARNS FIRST BIG BLOCK WIN
Middletown, NY: Defending two time Orange County Fair Speedway DIRT Sportsman champion Chris Shultz won his first modified feature in only his 5th OCFS start in stunning fashion Saturday night. Shultz, of Holmes, NY led the 30 lap X-Treme Drywall by nearly a half lap over Brett Hearn with one lap to go. The yellow flew when defending champion Chuck McKee stopped on the front stretch with a broken rear axle.
That set up a one lap shootout between the 14 time champion Hearn and the rookie Shultz. Shultz ran his line and pulled Hearn off turn two and won by two car lengths to become the 5th winner in 5 events this season. Andy Bachetti, Jerry Higbie and Tommy Meier followed Shultz and Hearn.
Jimmy Johnson of Bloomingburg, NY claimed the Mid City Transit Corp. 20 lap DIRT Sportsman feature. Taking the lead from Tom Foley on lap 4, Johnson picked up a guaranteed spot for the July race at Syracuse as he ran to his second checkered flag of the year. Foley, Stan Jablonka, Rick Mill, and Mike Kolka completed the top five.
The 14 lap Expert Pro Stock feature went to Andy Dembek, Jr. of Middletown, NY for his 3rd win of the season. Ending a 15 year win drought in the 12 lap Rookie Pro Stock event was Gary Borrell of Cortland Manor, NY. Al D'Antonio of Highland Lakes, NJ continues to dominate the Pure Stock division as he took his 4th win in 5 events run this season.
