STEWART FRIESEN, SCOTT GEORGE, DAVE SCHULZ, DAVE STOLZENBURG, AND RICK GORHAN NAB CHECKEREDS AT RANSOMVILLE: DANNY JOHNSON, SCOTT GEORGE, AND DAVE SCHULZ TAKE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ransomville, NY.........Ransomville Speedway managed to foil mother nature once again last Friday night as Bicknell Racing Products presented a full program amidst dismal skies. A total of eighty-eight cars filled the pit area and provided a packed grandstands with plenty of racing action.
Stewart Friesen of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario topped the Mighty Taco Modified field for the second time in just three weeks. Friesen took the lead away from Chad Brachmann with about ten laps remaining and went on to win his second in three weeks. Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY captured the Mighty Taco Modified championship. Johnson and Bicknell came into the night separated by just three points. In a battle that has become classic, Johnson and Bicknell fought to the end finishing third and fourth consecutively.
Pete Cosco and Todd Gordon led the modified field to the green in the forty-lap Labor Day special. Cosco held the lead at the get go with Jason Boyle in second. Randy Chrysler, Robbie Krull, and Chad Brachmann rounded out the top five as the championship battle raged behind them between Johnson and Bicknell. Chrysler made his way into second and quickly went to work on Cosco for the top spot. Chrysler was able to make the move stick and take over the lead with Krull in tow. Meanwhile back in the pack, Bicknell ran seventh while Johnson ran ninth. Brachmann took over the third position. Stewart Friesen followed suit taking over fourth. Bicknell and Johnson continued their tare to the front as they ran fifth and sixth consecutively. Brachmann made his way into second and pulled in on Chrysler. Brachmann looked to the bottom of Chrysler on lap nineteen and took over the lead position but only momentarily as Chrysler regained the top spot using a slide job off turn four. Eddie Cain spun in turn one directly in front of the leaders. Unfortunately for Krull, he had no where to go and collected the Cain machine. Chrysler slowed to avoid the spin allowing Brachmann by for the lead.
The restart found Brachmann, Chrysler, Friesen, Bicknell, and Johnson lined up single file for the restart with Brachmann maintaining the top spot. Friesen took over second while Chrysler, Bicknell, and Johnson battled three wide off turn four. Friesen reeled in Brachmann up front and went to work on the topside. The pair came off turn two side by side on lap twenty-eight with Friesen in command. Friesen continued to show the way to the checkered capturing his second of the season aboard his Orange Crush-Mike Maroney owned machine. Brachmann, Johnson, Bicknell, and Ricky Richner rounded out the top five.
Scott George of Wilson, NY put an exclamation point on his stellar season as he won his fifth Original Pizza Logs feature main of the season and took home his first track championship. George piloted his Original Pizza Logs sponsored machine to the front in a hurry and was never seriously challenged after that point.
Sean Kott led the early going of the twenty-lap main with Mark Feor, Pat McCoy, Mark Potter, and Scott George rounding out the top five. Mark Schulz ran into mechanical problems on lap five which brought out the first caution. Kott chose the inside lane for the restart with Feor alongside. Feor powered into the lead with George in tow. George moved to the inside of Feor on lap eight and grabbed the top spot. George was looking to put the icing on the cake and capture his fifth win of the season and the track championship. Jeff McGinnis moved into third followed by Potter and McCoy. John Smith climbed the guardrail in turn one bringing out a caution on lap fifteen. George set the pace on the restart and maintained the top spot followed closely by McGinnis. Contact mid pack sent McCoy around in turn four. Andy Joy had no where to go and ended up making hard contact with McCoy. George maintained the top spot on the restart as Kerwin made his way by McGinnis for second. Kerwin then went to work on George for the lead while Potter and Feor battled side by side for fourth. George would maintain the top spot through the checkered and collect his fifth win of the season. Kerwin, McGinnis, Potter, and Rob Kott rounded out the top five.
Dave Schulz ended the regular season in style as he captured his seventh Bobcat of Buffalo ProStock main and the track championship as well. Schulz used a last lap move on the highside of Roger Chrysler for the win.
The start of the Bobcat of Buffalo ProStock main was short lived to say the least as the outside pole sitter-Kevin House-got out of shape jamming up the field behind him. Steve DeVos, Brett Martin, and Mike Martin were the losers in the incident as they came to rest in turn one. The field tried once again and this time it was Chrysler with the lead. House, Dan Schulz, Scott Gribben, and Dan Shoop rounded out the top five. Chrysler pulled away to about a five car length lead as the field completed the second lap. Shoop kept his run to the front going as he made his way to second by lap seven. Brothers Dan and Dave Schulz ran third and fourth with Dan Mayer now fifth. Chrysler slipped high at the half-way mark allowing Shoop to close in. Dave Schulz passed Dan for third and moved in to challenge the top three. Schulz looked to the bottom of Shoop on lap twelve as Dan Schulz and Mayer battled side by side for fourth. ProStock racing at its finest to say the least as you could have put a blanket over the top five with just five laps remaining. Contact between Schulz and Shoop left Shoop pitside with a flat tire. Schulz took to the topside of Chrysler as they came off turn four and beat Chrysler to the line by a bumper. Chrysler, Mayer, Pete Stefanski and Dan Schulz rounded out the top five.
Rick Gorhan of Ransomville, NY won his second Clarks Burgerhouse Streetstock main in a row last Friday night. Gorhan took the lead away from Steve Shoop in the final laps for the win.
Shoop and Brian Sparks brought the field down for the green flag with Shoop taking the early lead. Rick Gorhan ran a tight second while Sparks dropped back to third. Kenny Brant was side-lined early with a right rear flat. The top two of Shoop and Gorhan pulled away from the field as they battled nose to tail. Shoop had a tough time getting by the lapped car of Tom Hill which allowed Gorhan by for the lead. Gorhan led the remaining circuits enroute to his second win followed by Shoop, Kenny Washburn, John Dietz, and Bill Holtz.
Dave Stolzenburg of Olcott, NY topped the second Clarks Burgerhouse Streetstock main on Bicknell Racing Products night. Stolzenburg held off persistent challenges by points leader Alex Morris in the closing laps.
A pair of one's shared the front row for the second Streetstock main as Dave Stolzenburg and John Schultz showed the field to the green. Schultz grabbed the early lead followed by Stolzenburg, Dave Nichols, Dave Jowdy, and Webb Nashwinter. As Schultz and Stolzenburg battled side by side, Schultz lost the handle and spun into the infield. Stolzenburg inherited the lead and set the pace for the restart. Stolzenburg chose the outside lane and maintained the top spot as Nichols ran second. Jowdy, Alex Morris, and Nashwinter rounded out the top five. Problems in turn four left Nashwinter in the front stretch moat and Wayne Close without a passenger side door. Once again Stolzenburg set the pace and held the[ top spot as Morris made a move to second. Morris quickly pulled in on the back bumper of Stolzenburg as Digger Lester made his way into the top five. Morris challenged Stolzenburg relentlessly on the final circuits but to no avail as Stolzenburg held on for the big win. Morris, Lester, Nichols, and Roger Israel rounded out the top five.
