STEWART FRIESEN, DAVE JUST, PETE STEFANSKI, JAREN ISRAEL, AND DAN BAUGHMAN CAPTURE WINS AT RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY
Ransomville, NY.........Stewart Friesen of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario moved up to the Mighty Taco Modified division and took the win aboard his Mike Maroney owned entry. It was Friesen's first modified win of his career. Friesen used a late race pass on Rich Vinson for the win.
Pete Cosco and Rich Vinson shared the front row for the thirty-lap feature go. Vinson took the early led followed by Rob Pietz, Cosco, Chad Brachmann, and Ricky Richner. Scott Harris brought out the first caution as he slowed in turn two-at the same time, Todd Gordon slowed in turn four. Vinson set the pace on the restart and maintained the top spot as Brachmann advanced to second. Pietz, Scott Wood, and Stewart Friesen rounded out the top five. Top point men Pete Bicknell and Danny Johnson were running just outside the top five. Friesen continued his charge to the front as he took over the fourth position on lap fourteen. Meanwhile Brachmann went to work on the lowside of Vinson for the lead and what he hoped would be his first win of the season at Ransomville. Brachmann was able to pull alongside Vinson on the bottom but it was the top groove giving Vinson the momentum coming off the turns. Wood and Friesen battled side by side for third as they reeled in the leaders.
With just ten to go, Vinson held the top spot followed closely by Brachmann, Wood, Friesen, and Johnson. Contact between Vinson and Brachmann allowed Vinson to pull slightly away from Brachmann with eight markers left. Friesen took over third and moved in to challenge Brachmann for the runner up sot with five laps remaining. You could have put a blanket over the top three as they ran three wide for the lead with three laps left. At the checkered it was Friesen in for the win over Vinson, Brachmann, Johnson, and Wood.
Dave Just of Ransomville, NY captured the win in the Original Pizza Logs Sportsman division last Friday night. Just won his second win of the 2003 season in dominating fashion aboard his JP Motorsports entry.
Pat McCoy led the field through the first circuit followed by John Smith, Tony Purgarich, Just, and Dave Kubiniec. Mark Potter broke into the top five on lap four as a three wide battle between Rob Kott, Jeff McGinnis, and Scott George was going on back in the pack. Purgarich pulled alongside of McCoy on lap ten with McCoy holding the lead at the line. Purgarich continued to work the low lane as Just watched in third. Purgarich pulled to the inside of McCoy on lap eleven and took over the lead spot as McCoy was beginning to show smoke. Just emerged into second while McCoy slowed drastically on lap fourteen and was sent pitside. McGinnis advanced to third followed by Potter and Smith. Just challenged Purgarich on the topside as McGinnis appeared to close the gap in third. Just took over the lead on lap seventeen as Scott Kerwin broke into the top five. Just showed the way to the checkered followed by McGinnis, Kerwin, Purgarich, and Potter.
Pete Stefanski celebrated a great week as not only did he become a new father but he also collected his fourth win of the season aboard the Bobcat of Buffalo ProStock ranks. Stefanski piloted his Original Pizza Logs sponsored machine to the top spot and a solid win.
Mike Martin led the field to the green and held the top spot followed by Roger Chrysler. Chrysler's terrible season at Ransomville continued as he came to rest in turn four on lap three. Steve Lewis, Steve DeVos, Dan Shoop, and Mike Williams rounded out the top five. Martin led the field back to green and maintained the lead until lap seven when he slipped high allowing Lewis and DeVos by. Chrysler's woes continued as he lost the handle in turn two bringing out the caution. Lewis chose the outside lane and held onto the top spot on the restart followed by DeVos, Williams, Stefanski, and Shoop. Stefanski continued his charge to the front as he took over second on lap eleven. Lewis held about a five car length lead. Points leader Dave Schulz who was piloting the borrowed John Koeppen machine broke into the top five as the caution flew for Jeremy Wilson and Chrysler who came together in turn four. Lewis showed the way to the green but it was Stefanski taking over the lead position. Stefanski maintained the top spot through the final circuits and took the win. Lewis, Schulz, DeVos, and Shoop rounded out the top five.
Jaren Israel of Wilson, NY topped the first Clarks Burgerhouse Streetstock main event for the fourth time in 2003. Israel took the lead away from Eric Ben on lap six and was never seriously challenged after that point aboard his Valair sponsored machine.
Ben set the pace and led the first lap followed by Derek Boyle, Webb Nashwinter, Jaren Israel, and Bill Holtz. Boyle and Nashwinter came together in turn two allowing Israel by for second. Israel continued his charge to the front passing Ben on lap six for the lead. Ben and Boyle ran a tight second and third while Nashwinter and Steve Shoop rounded out the top five. Kenny Washburn spun in turn four but was able to continue on as the halfway signal was given. Shoop and Nashwinter made contact resulting in Shoop up against the turn three guardrail. Israel set the pace on the restart and led he remaining laps enroute to his fourth win of the season. Ben, Roger Israel, Nashwinter, and Washburn rounded out the top five.
Dan Baughman of Lockport, NY topped the field in the second Clarks Burgerhouse Streetstock main. Baughman inherited the lead from Dave Stolzenburg when he slowed with mechanical woes early on.
Stolzenburg and Lucas Jonathon shared the front row for the second Streetstock main. Stolzenburg took the early lead and quickly distanced himself from the remainder of the field while Baughman moved into second. Stolzenburg found lady luck not on his side as he suddenly ducked into the pit area on lap three with mechanical problems. Stolzenburg had the same thing happen in heat action and coasted in for the heat win. Mike Short advanced to second followed by Dave Nichols, John Schultz, and points leader Alex Morris. Short appeared to close the gap between himself and Baughman as the field received the halfway signal. There was quite a distance between the top two and positions third thru fifth who were running in a tight pack. Baughman continued to lead the way and captured his third win of the season. Short, Nichols, Schultz, and Morris rounded out the top five.
Pitnotes…Making their first starts of the season included Scott Harris, Dave Wagner, and Paul Plante. Jason Boyle and Randy Chrysler both ran into mechanical woes in heat action and collected the guardrail. Chrysler and Pete Bicknell debuted brand new Bicknell chassis. Stewart Friesen made his first Ransomville start in the Mike Maroney owned modified entry. Enough can't be said for the work the Lucas Jonathon team had to go through in order to have him back up and running after the horrible flip he endured the week prior…way to go guys!!! The best give-away award would have to go to the Kevin Wills team who gave away ice cold chocolate mild during the autograph session. Wills incidentally owns the dairy farm that is located directly behind Ransomville Speedway. The track surface was the best yet as two racing grooves and a very tacky surface provided top notch racing. Next weeks racing finds a full card and a ladies race presented by L.O.E. Trailers.
