KINSER AND JOHNSON TAKE TOP HONORS IN FRONT OF HUGE CROWD AT ROLLING WHEELS
ELBRIDGE, NY...The Traveling World of Outlaws came to Elbridge and the Rolling Wheels Raceway last Wednesday to join the DIRT Modifieds in a double header. Defending World of Outlaw Champion, Steve Kinser, from Bloomington, IN, delighted the huge crowd by capturing the 25-lap Outlaw A-Main. It was Kinser's 32nd WoO win in New York State. Danny Johnson, from nearby Rochester, NY, won the 25-lap DIRT Modified special.
Paul McMahan took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Outlaw A-Main. On lap 7, Steve Kinser ducked low to take third but second place Brian Paulus looped in the fourth turn and brought out the yellow.
One lap later the yellow flew for a second time when DIRT Modified star Chuck Hebing spun high in the fourth turn.
Steve Kinser was determined, passing McMahan in the first turn on lap 11. Kinser then powered out to a full straight away lead over Donny Schatz on the final lap.
In the 25-lap DIRT Modified feature Danny Johnson shot immediately into the lead at the drop of the green from his inside pole starting spot. Chuck Bower took second followed by Justin Haers and Doug Hoffman.
Alan Johnson, Danny's older brother, started to charge up through the field from his seventh place starting position. By lap seven Alan had taken second and started to close the gap that Danny had created for himself and second. Chuck Bower bounced back to regain second, pushing Alan back to third.
Billy Decker seemed to be the next car on the move. Decker passed Hoffman to get into the top five by lap 11.
The real show started when both Alan and Tim McCreadie passed Bower for second and third. Both drivers started to race side-by-side for the second spot. Finally on lap 19, tim, using the high groove, was able to complete the pass for second.
At the finish line, in a 25-lap race that lasted just 9 minutes and 44 second, going green-to-checkers, it was Danny Johnson taking his 25th Rolling Wheels career win. Johnson's last Rolling Wheels win came back on September 24, 2000.
Tim McCreadie held off Alan for second. Alan Johnson, Chuck Bower and Billy Decker rounded out the top five finishers.
