McCREADIE TAKES WIN AS MARK KINSER TRIES TO SWEEP OUTLAW NEW YORK SWING
ELBRIDGE, NY...Mark Kinser, from Oolitic, Indiana, found the fat groove around the five-eighths mile Rolling Wheels raceway to win his second straight World of Outlaws event in New York State last Wednesday evening. Also earning a victory on the evening was the popular Bob McCreadie, as he won the special 25-lap DIRT Modified main event.
"We had to push this show along," stated promoter Glenn Donnelly. "Rain in the area threatened us all night." Light rain showers did, in fact, interrupt the races following the third World of Outlaws heat race. In an effort to make sure the race fans saw a completed program, Donnelly "ate" the cost of adding all of the sprint cars on hand to the A-Main, forgoing the B- Main.
"We hated to lose money on that deal," continued Donnelly, "but the race fans deserved to see the sprints." Donnelly also canceled the modified consolation, starting all 32 modifieds in the main event in an effort to move the program along.
The 25-lap World of Outlaws feature was first on tap. Steve Kinser used his victory in the dash to start on the pole in the A-Main and immediately grab the lead at the drop of the green. The race, however, had to be red flagged as George Suprick flipped his car in the third turn. Kinser maintained his lead on the restart, followed closely by cousin Mark Kinser.
A yellow on lap four saw three cars involved in a spin in the second turn; Joe Gaerte, Andy Hillenburg and Lance Blevins. All cars were able to return to the fray. Still another yellow on lap 8, saw R.C. Faigle loop his car over the third turn banking. He too returned, only to drop from the race on lap 11.
Mark Kinser passed Steve for the lead on lap 10, just as the leaders were about to enter lapped traffic. Mark then powered his MoPar motored car to a six car advantage over Steve Kinser. In the closing laps Donny Schatz was able to pass Steve for second and set out after Mark. Schatz had just too much space to make up and settled for the runner up position.
Mark Kinser took the $10,000 victory followed by Schatz, Steve Kinser, Tyler Walker and Dale Blaney, rounding out the top five.
The 25-lap DIRT Modified feature followed with Jimmy Horton leading the race early on. Bob McCreadie, who had started third took command of the race on lap four and powered away from the rest of the pack. Horton tried to challenge McCreadie only to have traffic stop his advances.
The only yellow of the race came on lap 21 when Kenny tremont spun in the third turn. He quickly recovered and fell in at the back of the field. McCreadie took the victory followed by Horton, Billy Decker, Brett Hearn and Doug Hoffman. A very sore McCreadie revealed that he had almost been hit in the pit area by a speeding sprint car. In his efforts to escape injury, he re-injured his allying back. He is expected to compete this weekend.
About twenty minutes, following the completion of racing, a rain storm with heavy down pours hit the Elbridge that would have surely ended the night of racing.
Rolling Wheels Raceway will now be readied to host the Advance Auto Parts Stores Super DIRT Series 99-lap race on Thursday, July 1, starting at 7 p.m.. Joining the DIRT Modifieds that evening will be a 20-lap DIRT Sportsman feature as the cars and stars from the DIRT circuit ready themselves for the special Sunday, July 4, event at the New York State Fairgrounds mile oval in Syracuse. Fireworks will highlight all Central New York DIRT promotions during the Independence Day weekend.
