Colsten, Titus And Shea Share Thunder Mountain Wins
&nbs;= p; Center Lisle, New York....Mike Colsten got his fourth feature win of the year in the highly competitive thirty lap Modified feature, Ken Titus led all the way to get his first ever Sportsman win and Jamie Shea continued to pick them off with his seventh in nine tries in the Street Stock twenty lapper. Other winners included Steve Hill for the seventh time in the Four Cylinder Modifieds, Rich Powell for the fourth time in the Four Cylinder Stocks, Steve Klock for the third time in the Mini Sprints and Bill Rampe for the second week in a row fifteen lap Pure Stock event. on Green's Do It Center night at the Thunder Mountain Speedway.
&= nbsp; Colsten, who is the Thunder Mountain Point leader took command for good on a restart with just five laps to go from Doug Worthing who had led from lap fourteen. Mike Nagel led the early going until Colsten, from his eighth starting spot took command on lap seven. He brought Doug Worthing with him and the two of the battled tooth and nail for the next seven laps before Worthing powered by on the outside for the lead. Once in front, Worthing opened up a two-car length lead over Colsten but was never able to shake "Mr. Ford Power". The yellow came out on lap twenty-five as Colsten made his move under Worthing coming off turn four. Once in front, Colsten never looked back despite one more yellow for late race incident between Tommy McGurrin and Steve Babicek. Worthing had one more shot at Colsten but didn't have enough to get by and Colsten had his fourth win. Worthing held on for second despite a late race charge from Paul Jensen, while Mike Clapperton took home fourth and Carl Nagel grabbed off the fifth spot.
&= nbsp; Ken Titus, who up until this season spent his entire racing career in a Dwarf Car, took command from his outside pole starting spot in the twenty laps Sportsman feature. Titus pretty much had things his own way for the better part of the race. The first yellow didn't come out until lap eleven and this put the rest of the field right on Titus' back bumper including Rick Wilk and multi-time feature winner Don Hart Jr. Titus was equal to the task and turned back every challenge and on lap eighteen, point leader Hart spun in turn two bringing out the race's last yellow and putting last week's winner Kevin Jordan. Jordan got part way under a couple of times but couldn't pull it off and Titus had his first career Sportsman win. Jordan was a solid second followed by Chad Cook in third, Brian Payne in fourth and Steve Anderson rounding out the top five.
&= nbsp; For the eighth time in ten shows, Jamie Shea sat in victory lane after the Super Stock feature. Shea took control of the race after early leader Charlie Fulton got a flat tire midway through the race. Shea had his hands full however as the potent machine of Ray Taylor gave Shea all he could handle for the latter part of the race. Taylor got outside a number of times but just couldn't pull it off and had to settle for the runner-up spot. He was followed by Larry Hillis in third, rookie Ken Hammond, in fourth and Ron Latwinski in the fifth spot.
&= nbsp; For the seventh time in nine shows, Steve Hill was in the winner's circle after the fifteen lap four Cylinder Modified feature. After starting tenth and having a tough time getting through traffic, Hill didn't catch leader Mark Reynolds on lap eleven after a wall banging incident involving the far/son duo of Andy and Chet Carr. Once the green flew Hill made short work of Reynolds and led the rest of the way for the victory. Reynolds, in his best ever Thunder Mountain Speedway finish came home second followed by Scott Allen in third, Cliff Pierce in fourth and George Howe completing the top five finishers.
&= nbsp; As the field scattered on the initial lap of the fifteen lap Four Cylinder Stock event, two-time winner Rick Angle came out of the pack with the lead. That was short lived however as Chris Smith took over on lap five. Smith led until lap eight when he and Stanley Mathews got together and spun in turn three. Once again, Angle found himself in the front of the pack. A yellow on lap eleven sent Angle to the pits with a major fluid leak which gave the lead to point leader Rich Powell who led the rest of the way for his fourth win of the season. Smith worked his way back up to second followed by Jay Hayward in third, Jeff Wilcox in fourth and Stanley Mathews in fifth.
&= nbsp; Rich Green led the first three laps of the fifteen-lap Pure Stock feature before former winner Max Moshier Jr. took over. Moshier's lead didn't last long as something malfunctioned as the field completed lap four. The field stacked up behind him but there was no serious damage inflicted. Green once again took over the top spot before he got a lot of company in the form of last week's winner Bill Rampe. At the halfway point, Rampe got under Green and stayed there the rest of the way. Green stayed in second until the very last lap when former point champ Mike Wilbur shot by and took second from Green Buck Mills took fourth and Norm Whittemore was fifth.
&= nbsp; Steve Klock took advantage of Rick Wust's misfortune and claimed his second feature win in a row and third overall. Wust had led most of the way before losing the handle on lap thirteen in turn two. Jeremy Vunk came home second followed by Bruce Gould in third, Wust came back to get fourth and Aric Copeland was fifth.
