McCREADIE SURPASSES THE 300 WIN MARK, DONATH DOMINATES THE SPORTSMAN AND BARRON IS CROWNED CHAMPION

WEEDSPORT, NY...Bob McCreadie from Watertown, NY, recorded racing history last Sunday at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway, posting his 300th overall DIRT Modified feature win. "I want to thank my crew for sticking with me," stated McCreadie. "And thanks to my son (Tim, who finished second) for staying behind me. As he was growing up I taught him to respect his elders."

Also picking up victories on the evening were Shawn Donath taking his first ever Cayuga County Fair Speedway victory. In the Pro-Stocks the 20-lap win went to Fred Dennis following an exciting 15-lap side-by-side duel between Dennis and Barron. Veteran driver Sam Christa took the win in the Pit Stop Convenience Stores Four-Cylinder Enduro.

The 35-lap DIRT Modified feature saw Bob McCreadie immediately jump into the lead followed by Joe Beyea and Jim Burke. The first of two yellows came on lap three when Tim Harris looped his number 27H in the first turn, scattering the field.

McCreadie was able to pull away to nearly a six second lead by lap 10, only to have his son Tim duck low on lap 19 to take second. The younger McCreadie then began to close on his father's famed number 9, Kinney Drug Stores sponsored machine. A caution on lap 28 flew when Scott Prentice spun backwards off the speedway and under the lap counter in the first turn.

The restart saw Bob out power son Tim. McCreadie seemed to be in trouble as his son was able to close the gap he had already made. Bob took the win some .463 seconds in front of his son. Chuck Bower finished third followed by Ray Bliss Jr. and Alan Johnson.

Tim related in victory lane standing by his father, "I rather finish second to my dad then to Brett Hearn, like I did earlier in the week. He's a great guy and he's my father. I love him a lot." He continued, "How can I be disappointed finishing second to him with everyone cheering and yelling for him."

The 20-lap sportsman feature saw early leader Greg Doust come to a halt in the fourth turn on lap seven. This turned the lead over to second place Shawn Donath. The hardest hit of the night came on lap 16 when Terry Falter looped in the first turn. He was collected by Amanda Grano slamming into the side of the stopped car.

Ryan Richardson made a valiant move to try and take the lead. He was recorded as the leader on lap 17 in a side-by-side duel with Donath. Donath rebounded and lead the field to the checkers. Ryan Richardson, Tim Sears, Eldon Payne Jr. and Russ Hefti rounded out the top five finishers.

The 20-lap Pro-Stock feature saw one of the most competitive races ever run at the tiny Weedsport based oval. Fred Dennis took the lead at the drop of the green, only to be pressured back by Tommy Barron. Barron pulled along side of the Dennis machine and tried every trick to get back the lead from Dennis. Dennis held his line and was able to out power the pack by the end of the 20-lap race for the win. Barron finished just .209 seconds back in second. Mike Cooper, Dave McCready and Derrick Excell.

Barron's second place finish secured the 2002 Cayuga County Fair Speedway Championship. The Pro-Stocks are now done at the track for the Fall season.

This week will see a full card of Modified/358-Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro-Stocks and Four Cylinder cars.Points for the 358-Modifieds will come to an end this Sunday. Race time is at 7 p.m. sharp.
