McCREADIE WINS TWICE AND CLAIMS THE CCFS TRACK TITLE

WEEDSPORT, NY...Tim McCreadie earned his first track championship last Sunday at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway in Weedsport, NY. McCreadie not only won the rain delayed 35-lap feature for DIRT Modifieds, but won the night capper, the 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series feature. Also picking up a track championship was Steve Gray in the DIRT Sportsman division. Sportsman feature wins went to Greg Doust in the rain delayed feature from August 26 and Justin Haers in the weekly 20-lap feature. Tony Buffa won the rain delayed Dwarf car main event and Joe Reeves won the rain delayed Pit Stop Convenience Stores Enduro.

The 100-lap Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series began with Bobby Varin grabbing the lead from his outside pole starting position. Varin led Tom Sears Jr and Brett Hearn for 22 laps before the yellow waved when Jimmy Phelps stopped alongside of the third turn wall. The restart saw Varin hold his advantage, as Tim McCreadie grabbed second from Sears Jr. on the restart.

The yellow flew again on lap 27 when Ray Bliss Jr. came to a stop in the first turn with a broken rear suspension. This time McCreadie took the lead on the restart, but could only hold on for one lap, as Varin inched around him on the high side of the speedway. Varin then drew away using lapped cars to build a shield between himself and McCreadie. On lap 34 the yellow flew again for a major tangle in the fourth turn involving Steve Paine, Jim Gabriel Jr. and Gary Tomkins. During this yellow period, Bob McCreadie, who was running in eighth, suffered a flat tire and pitted for new rubber.

Varin again held off Tim McCreadie on the restart. Finally on lap 43 McCreadie made his move and took the lead for good. On lap 52 the yellow flew when Tom Sears Jr. made contact with the backstretch wall. Sears again brought out the yellow, on lap 58, when his car came to a stop on the track.

The last half of the race saw McCreadie draw away from the pack, with Hearn taking second on lap 53. Doug Hoffman raced a consistent third all night long. Rounding out the top five were Billy Decker and Tim Fuller. The feature took 46 minutes to run. Varin turned in the best lap of the race on lap 3 with an 18.289 second lap.

The rain delayed Modified feature saw McCreadie take the lead from Sears Jr., again, on lap eight. Three early cautions slowed the race, lap two when Tim Fuller slowed in the first turn, lap six when Dave Axton made heavy contact with the front stretch wall and lap seven for a spin by Ed Monroe in the fourth turn.

Sears Jr. finished second behind McCreadie. Jimmy Phelps, Danny Johnson and Bob McCreadie rounded out the top five.

The Sportsman feature saw Chris Ostrowsky lead for over half the race with Jim Bowman in tow. On lap 13 the yellow flew when Rodney Plantz stopped in the second turn. The restart saw a major tangle in the fourth turn involving five cars. Ostrowsky held off Jim Spano, Justin Haers and Steve Gray. On lap 15, Spano got around Ostrowsky for the lead and then lost that lead the very next lap to Justin Haers.

Haers came home with the win followed by Gray, Bowman, Spano and Tom Juhl. Gray's second place finish earned him the track championship. The first rain delayed sportsman feature saw Gray lead the majority of the race only to slow with mechanical woes during the final two laps of the race. This opened the door for Greg Doust to take the lead on lap 19. Doust took the victory followed by Hears, Gray, John Plumb and Robert Haws.

The Dwarf feature rain delayed from August 26 saw Tony Buffa take control of the race on lap five of 15. Buffa swept the races at Cayuga County in 2001, wining all but one feature.

This concludes the racing season at Cayuga County in 2001. The track management wishes to thank all of the fans who have supported the races at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in 2001.
