White, Grammes, Petrilak, Villano, Hartman At Lake Moc-A-Tek
Despite threatening skies and a heavy late afternoon shower, Mother
Nature did not put a stop to racing activities at the Lake Moc-A-Tek
Speedway. Promoter Charlie Bray and General Manager Carl "Fuzzy" Van
Horn elected to wait out a late afternoon shower and were rewuarded with
an almost perfect night for racing. The rain did delay the start of the
races by about a half hour as crews worked the track back into shape, but
the entire program was run off without a hitch and ended well before
curfew.
One driver who was glad the races went on as scheduled was veteran
driver Barry White. After suffering misfortunes while leading the
previous week, White got a second chance on Saturday night and he made
good on it as he led the entire distance to pick up the win in the 25 lap
358 Modified feature. The pilot of the Deka Batteries sponsored #131
took the lead at the drop of the green and proceeded to lead every lap of
the feature. The win was White's first ever Lake Moc-A-Tek triumph.
Nick Barassi had his best run of the season as he finished a strong
second behind White. Ed Strada Jr., Alan Kellogg, and Dom Roselli
completed the top five finishing order. Brian Malcolm, Russ Strausser,
Jason Rudalavage, Bill Thornton, and Troy Weisenfluh completed the top
ten.
Kunkletown, Pa.'s Brad Grammes drove his Slug 'n Slam Construction
sponsored #5 to his second victory of the season at Lake Moc-A-Tek. The
rookie driver turned in a dominating performance to pick up the feature
win, the second triumph for Grammes in this his rookie season. Brad
fought hard for the victory as he spent most of the race dueling with Tom
Laner Jr. for the top spot. Laner pressured Grammes all the way, but was
never able to find a way past and settled for a strong runner-up finish.
Rocky Rosetti finished third with Alex Knopka and Chris Kresge completing
the top five finishing order. Newcomer Jimmy Wincell finished a solid
sixth in his first ever Lake Moc-A-Tek start with Ralph Mele, Bob
Grammes, Mike Schane, and Mike Marold rounding out the top ten.
Teenage racing sensation Nick Petrilak picked up the win in the
Street Stock feature on Saturday night. The Greenfield Twp.high school
student drove around the outside of current point leader and defending
track champion Mike Loney to take over the top spot on lap 18 of the 20
lap feature. Loney tride to work his way pback past Petrilak in the
closing laps, but could not find a way past Nick. Petrilak's win came
aboard the D & D Outlaw chassied car that Nick normally campaigns at the
Penn Can Speedway on Friday nights. Behind Petrilak and Loney, Rick
Lazar had his best run of the season to date, finishing a solid third.
Ed kudrako also had a season's best fourth place finish while Neil
DiBlasi charged from starting dead last to finish fifth. Chuck Davis,
Adam Jones, Jim Hughes Jr., Chuck Lowe and Mike Van Tassell completed the
top ten.
Keith Villano became only the second driver this season to win a
Pure Stock feature driving a four cylinder powered car. A last lap
restart made for a dramatic finish as Villano had current point leaer and
multi-time feature winner Nate Evans on his tail for the final restart.
Evens made a run at Keith over the final lap, but could not find a way
past Villano's Mustang over the final laps, and Keith recored a
hard-earned feature win, his first ever Lake Moc-A-Tek triumph. Evans
crossed the line second ahead of Franklin Bush, Floyd Schmidt, and Don
Leiper. Todd Hotaling, Jim Bargabus, Ronnie Blake, Jason Martin, and
Gregg Brunges made up the remainder of the top ten.
Richie Hartmen picked up the win in the 250cc Micro Sprint feature,
the fourth win of the season for Hartman, the current divisional point
leader. Hartman got out front early then survived a furious late race
charge by Terry Schaffer to pick up the win. Hartman saw a compfortable
lead disappear when a lap 13 caution flag bunched the field up. From
there, Hartman was able to hold off Schaffer's challenges the rest of the
way. Hartman crossed the line first ahead of Schaffer for the win.
Schaffer finished second with Davie Franek third. Fred Valenza crossed
the line fourth newcomer Steve Buckwalter fifth in his first Lake
Moc-A-Tek start. Ralph Utter Jr., Kevin Nolf, Chris Oraschin, Mike
Tidabeck, and Rick McKay finished sixth throough tenth respectively.

Moc-A-Tek is scheduled for this Saturday, August 11th. The fireworks
