Penn Can Wins To Tittle, Virkits, Stone, Conover, Sparks, And

SUSQUEHANNA, PA =AD Butch Tittle and Kirk Horton win each of the two

Modified features run at Penn Can Speedway on Friday night. Dan Stone,

Scott Conover, Ken Sparks and Mike Stoddard also scored victories=20 in

their respective divisions.

In the first Modified feature, Dan Highline led the field down to the

green flag, however he lost the lead to Rick Holgate. Holgate lead the

race until lap five when it passed to many drivers throughout many

cautions. Tittle emerged on lap 14 and battled with Holgate and Jeff

Bronson for the win. Bronson grabbed the lead on lap 20 from Tittle,

but Tittle took it back two laps later and went on win. Bronson fell

back through the field as Harry Marvin forced his way to a second place

finish.

Brain Weaver steadily climbed through the field and finished third.

Rick Holgate had his best run to date with a fourth place finish after

leading the early part of the race, and continuing to stay up front

while Tommy McGurin rounded out the top five.

In the second Modified feature, Verities started in third place with

Carl Nagle jumping out to an early lead. Virkitis passed Nagle on the

outside on lap 6 to take the lead. Verities battled with Nagle the

entire race, however Nagle couldn=92t get passed him. Virkitis went on to

win, being the fourth different race winner in the Modified=20 division

this season.

Tommy McGurin had another strong run, coming home in third. He battled

through the field after starting in 13th position. George Konstalansky

and Brian Weaver rounded out the top five.

Dan Stone only took three laps to take the lead and the victory in the

Late Model feature. Jim Sherman led the first two laps until Stone flew

around the outside of him and into the lead. Bill Marvin also drove

past Sherman but he got tangled up with a lapped car and fell back in

the field. Sherman finished in second followed by Alan Coy, Gene

Sharpsteen and Dave Passetti.

In the Street Stock feature, Glen Wilcox jumped out to an early lead.

A few laps later, Pete Gulick and Scott Conver also swapped the led

until Conover took it for good on lap 8. John Green and Brett Spoor

battled for position while Conover pulled away from the field. Spoor

took the advantage, coming home in second with John Green close behind.

Newcomer to Penn Can Speedway, Scott Bennett finished a solid fourth and

Craig Trella finished in fifth.

Jeff Cleveland jumped out to an early lead in the Pure Stock Feature.

He battled with bill Hawkins until Ken Sparks emerged late in the race.

Sparks moved to the inside of Cleveland and took over the lead on lap

13. Last week=92s winner Brain Decker finished in the runner up position

followed by Chad Stone, Bill Hawkins and Eric Pribula.

In the IMCA feature, Paul Rooney led the early part of the race. Bob

Chapman passed him on lap four and led the next two laps until Mike

Smith powered to the inside of Chapman. Smith began to pull away form

the field as Chapman finished in second. Rooney came home in third

followed by Steve Hartman and Gil Sharpsteen.
