"Little Foot" Goes To Victory At Canandaigua Speedway

CANANDAIGUA, NY...The saying, "Dad can I borrow the car,"

can be used to refer to Tim Mccreadie borrowing his father,

Bob's, Kinney Drugs number 9 and winning the 35-lap DIRT Modified

feature event at the Canandaigua Speedway. Adding to the flavor

of "youth rules", young Chad Homan won the Pro-stock feature

while high school senior Matt Sheppard won the 20-lap Sportsman

main event. Rounding out the trips to victory lane was young

Frank Burnell aboard his Street Stock machine.

"I want to thank my dad for lending me his car," commented

an elated Tim McCreadie from victory lane. "The bottom of the

track was the place to be and I just got there first."

The 35-lap main started off with Chuck Bower grabbing the

lead in his Currier Plastics 99b. Unfortunately records fall and

on lap 3 the yellow flag flew when Bob Simmons Jr. spun in the

third turn. That was the first yellow flag in a modified feature

at Canandaigua since May 18, some 165 laps of green flag modified

racing.

Bower was able to maintain his lead on the restart, however

Tim McCreadie was moving up fast in the low grove. Bower had

built up a three car advantage when McCreadie took second on lap

five. Tim then began to charge after the lead. Using that fast

lower grove, McCreadie caught Bower and passed him in turn four

on lap 18.

One lap later Charlie Donk slowed on the backstretch to

bring out the second yellow of the event. The race restarted and

the lapped car of Jeff Brownell collected Alex Hoag and Chuck

Hebing in the first turn, forcing the yellow to fly for a third

time.

With the bright orange full moon rising in the background,

McCreadie held off the advances of Steve Paine and Danny Johnson.

Paine raced side-by-side with McCreadie for three laps to the

delight of the crowd. When Danny joined the fight at the front of

the field the crowd stood in anticipation of coming events.

With just three laps remaining Paine pulled alongside again

for one last charge coming out of the second turn. His efforts

fell short as his car drifted too high resulting in McCreadie

strengthening his lead to some six cars lengths.

Paine tried in vain to make time for his slip up, however he

had to settle for second behind McCreadie. Danny Johnson, Bower

and Vic Coffey rounded out the top five finishers.

The 20-lap Sportsman feature saw Matt Sheppard take the lead

from Paul Guererri on a lap eight restart. Guererri had been

leading for six laps up until that point.

The only yellow of the race came on lap 8 when Bill Englert

looped in the fourth turn.

Sheppard held a ten car advantage as he cross the finish

line ahead of Guererri. Joe Beyea, Karl Comfort and Steve Gray

rounded out the top five.

"We have been fast with this Chevy for the last few weeks,"

stated Sheppard. "We have to maintain our momentum in the coming

weeks."

The 20-lap Pro-Stock feature saw Chad Homan start from the

pole position. Over the past few weeks Homan has had trouble

finishing feature event in one piece. Three weeks ago he flipped

his pro-stock through the fence off the back stretch.

Homan held back a frantic fight for second through eighth

places between Rick Miller, Mike Cooper, Patrick Hobbs, Steve

Miller, Lee Burnett, Jim McGuigan in his shinney new car and Jipp

Ortiz.

Rick Miller was able to stay with Homan when he began to

pull away from the pack after four yellows had slow the race

during the first half of the event. Homan pulled away from Miller

in the closing laps to win easily. Miller held on to second

followed by two time feature winner Mike Cooper in third. Steve

Miller finished fourth and Lee Burnett in fifth.

"it was good to finish with all four tires still on the

car," quipped Homan from victory lane.

The 10-lap Street Stock feature was shorten to just 8 laps

after an accident on every lap slowed the race to a crawl. Frank

Burnell led the entire 8 lap distance.

Racing returns to Canandaigua this Saturday when it will be

Finger Lakes Castle-K&D Gravel night at the track. A regular

night of racing will feature the four weekly divisions; DIRT

Modified, Sportsman, Pro-Stock and Street Stocks. race time will

be at 7 o'clock sharp.
