DECKER CAPTURES ANOTHER BREWERTON WIN

BREWERTON, NY...8/28/98..Billy Decker took advantage of a red flag during the 35-lap DIRT Modified feature event to pass 'Barefoot' Bob McCreadie and grab another win Friday night at Brewerton Speedway. Sean Lias moved one step closer to a track title with his IMCA Modified feature win, Troy Van Allen all but locked up the track title in the Dwarf cars for his win, and Ed Granoski took his third win in a row in the 4 Cylinders.

Decker moved up through the field through many stop and go cautions in the first part of the DIRT Modified feature event. The early yellows involved the likes of Bob McCreadie, Danny and Alan Johnson, and Bill Abold. McCreadie came storming through the pack to move into contention past the halfway point, while Tim Fuller was taking the top spot from Bobby Varin, whose car was very strong. Pat Ward and Billy Decker fought for position.

Fuller got tangled with a lapped car with ten laps to go, and the red flag was displayed to separate the two cars. Decker was moved back into second under red after a videotape review of the caution flag, and on the restart his car found bit it was previously lacking, and he took the lead from McCreadie with seven laps to go. Decker held on for the feature win, inching closer to a track title. Alan Johnson moved past McCreadie to grab second, followed by Pat Ward and Danny Johnson. Modified heats were won!

by Dale Planck, Scott Prentice, and Varin.

The 20-lap IMCA Modified feature event saw Sean Lias and George Catanzano battle their way through the field to take on early front runners Rob Keller and Dick Weiland. Contact between Keller and Catanzano while they raced for position sent Catanzano spinn!

ing in front of the field, but everyone avoided him and he recovered to place within the top ten. Lias grabbed the lead and staved off repeated challenges from Keller to grab the win, followed by Keller, Bob Bradt, Brent Matzel, and Craig Simmons. IMCA Modified heats were won by Keller and Matzel.

The Dwarf car feature was again dominated by Troy Van Allen, who moved up 14 positions to take the lead by lap 6. A great battle for position waged between Pat Pontello and Ken Gamlen, with Eric Crawford and Mark Weigelt in the mix as well. Bill Teliska was also in the middle of the battle as well. Van Allen stretched his lead to a full straightaway at the finish. Pontello fought off Gamlen to take second, with Crawford and Weigelt rounding out the top five. Dwarf car heats were won by Van Allen, Pontello, and Gamlen.

The 4 Cylinder feature was a see saw battle between Lloyd Hinton and Ed Granoski that waged form lap 5 till a red flag on lap 14 for a multiple car crash on the frontstretch. On the restart, with just one lap to go, Granoski moved to the outside to grab th!

e lead from Hinton and carry it to the finish for his third win in a row. Point leader Hinton grabbed the second spot, followed by early race leader Harvey Calkins Jr. Ken Klinkowsky and Mark Warner rounded out the top five, with 54 Cylinder heats won by Granoski, Jim Olin, and Hinton.

The Youth Dwarf feature event was once again nabbed by Dave Gruel.

Next Friday night, the Brewerton Speedway will feature a regular show of DIRT Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, 4 Cylinders, and Dwarf cars, plus the return of the popular School Bus Races. Gates will open at 5:30pm and racing starts at 7:30pm.
