McCREADIE RETURNS TO CCFS VICTORY LANE

WEEDSPORT, NY.8/9/98....Not since opening day at Cayuga County Fairgrounds Speedway, back in April, has Bob McCreadie been able to break into victory lane at the speedway. Last Sunday Bob washed away all fears that he would not be able to regain his pre-operation form, and won the 35-lap DIRT Modified main. Rich Swarthout took the victory in the Sportsman division earning his third feature win of the year at CCFS. Mike Potts remains at the front of the enduro pack, winning the 40-lap enduro feature event last Sunday.

McCreadie quickly jumped into the lead from his outside pole starting spot to extend a five car advantage over Tom Burnett, Tom Sears Jr., Steve Glover and Scott Prentice. The only yellow flag of the race came on lap six, when jason Barney slowed his mount going down the back stretch with a flat tire. He quickly pitted and returned to the back of the field.

The restart saw a wild scramble as two cars, Steve Glover and Scott Prentice were hooked together sending the rest of the field looking for an escape route. In total six cars were involved in this third turn melee and the field formed to retake lap six.

McCreadie found himself with a new challenger, Alan Johnson, as Johnson took second on lap seven. These two drivers began to pull out nearly a half straight away lead over the field. Billy Decker took Sears Jr. for third on lap nine and Pat Ward moved into fifth that same circuit. Ward was able to move into fourth by lap 13 and the framework of the feature finish seemed to be set.

In the closing stages of the race, as the field darted through lapped traffic, Tim Fuller, running fifth after passing Sears Jr. on lap 21, made contact with the first turn wall. He made a glancing blow off the concrete to maintain his position.

McCreadie led the field to the checkers followed by Johnson, Decker, Ward and Fuller.

"It's been a different type of year for us," commented McCreadie in victory lane. "It feels good to be back here in victory lane, thanks a lot to the efforts of the crew."

Rich Swarthout passed rookie contender Ryan Bay on a lap four restart to win his third sportsman feature of the season at Cayuga County. A massive tangle in the first turn involving a number of top contenders slowed the feature on lap four. Most of the cars were able to return to the race.

Swarthout pulled out nearly a full straight away lead over Mike Button and Jim LaRock in the closing stages of the race. Vince Vitale came home in fourth followed by Baye in fifth.

"We've been working on dialing this car in this season," stated Swarthout. "Some nights we just haven't found the handle. Tonight it felt real good."

Sunday evening racing continues this week with a special non-point Modified/358-modified 35-lap feature. The Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown was forced to us this Sunday to make room for their Skoal Bandit Racing sm Super DIRT Series event. This will possibly mean a new winner at Weedsport! The sportsman cars will be running a point race along with a 40-lap enduro. A return of the IMCA modifieds is also scheduled to take place. Race time is 7 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m.. Recently races have been concluded by 9:30 p.m., making it easier for fans to make it home and get up the next morning.
