BRETT HEARN WINS 97 LAP SKOAL BANDIT sm SUPER DIRT SERIES EVENT FRIDAY AT BREWERTON




Brewerton NY...Brett Hearn of Sussex, NJ out dueled 51 358 Modified entrants to win the 97
lap Skoal Bandit Racing sm Super DIRT Series event Friday evening at the Brewerton Speedway.
Tom Horning of Watertown, NY won the companion 20 lap IMCA Modified main!
event.

Tom Kinsella and Mike Perrotte lead the 34 car 358 Modified starting grid down to starter
Chip Burdicks green flag with Perrotte grabbing the initial lead.

Many of the series best known names were starting near the middle of the field with Kenny
Tremont the first to make his presence known. The Dougherty Brothers #21 moved to the high
side of the speedway and moved to the lead on the 8th circuit.

Tenth place starting Jack Johnson was the guest driver in the #FX1 and made his way to the
lead pack of cars moving by Perrotte on the 11th circuit. Tremont and Johnson then hooked up
in a vicious side-by-side battle that saw the lead changed numerous time!
s over the next 25 laps.

Brett Hearn drew the 13th place starting slot and was not held back for long as moved by cars
consistently lap after lap to find himself in the cat-bird set behind the lead duo. Hearn
would stay with in reach of the leaders until the 47th circuit when he m!
ade the move by then leader Jack Johnson stick and never looked back to record the Skoal
Series victory worth $3,000.

Johnson and Kenny Tremont were joined by Danny Johnson in their battle for the runner-up spot
late in the event. Danny, in the Sheldon Legue #1, moved by Tremont on the 56th lap but
could not catch Jack Johnson and was forced to settle for third after star!
ting 9th.

Tremont held on for 4th with Alan Johnson rounding out the top five. Jack Johnson by virtue
of his second place finish won the Prolong guaranteed spot for Super DIRT Week.

Heat race events for the 51 358 DIRT Modifieds in attendance went to Ronnie Johnson, Pete
Bicknell, Tom Kinsella, Billy Decker, and Tim McCreadie while the trio of consolation events
were captured by Gary Tomkins, Tim Fuller, and Steve Paine.

1997 IMCA Modified track champion Tom Horning back up his championship year with a win in the
20 lap companion event. Horning took the lead on the 3rd circuit and held off a determined
Neil Edgar for the feature event win. George Catanzano, Don Denue, and!
Glen Erwin rounded out the top five.

Heat race wins for the 28 IMCA Modifieds on hand went to Erwin, Edgar, and Horning while
Glenn West picked up the win in the consolation event.

The next event on the Brewerton Speedway calendar is Thursday, October 9th with the 4th
annual Budweiser 100 lap 358 Modified championship. Gates will open at 4:30 with the racing
