Don Scarborough Wins First Feature, Tremont Second at Devil's Bowl Holiday Classic

W. HAVEN VT -8/31/97- Don Scarborough picked up where he left off last week in the first 25-lapper

at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Sunday. Last week his car broke while he had a straightaway lead

on the field. This time it was Mike Ronca's turn, as Ronca was leading t!

he feature comfortably when his car suddenly stopped working and Scarborough took over the

lead and went on to the win. In the second modified feature the field was inverted from 13th

up. Ken Tremont started in eighth place and almost immediately Todd Stone!

got out of shape in turn one, causing a caution. Tremont blasted into first place on the

restart and never looked back, as he took his sixth win of the year at the Bowl.

In the first modified feature Scarborough took the lead when Ronca headed to the pits on lap

nine. He was followed by Jack Cottrell and Mike Ricci. Scarborough moved out to a substantial

lead while Cottrell and Ricci battled it out for second. Jeff Trombley!

was strong in the Wayne Ryan #28, and he moved into fourth. With ten to go, Trombley took

the third place spot from Ricci briefly, but Ricci took it back and then passed Cottrell for

second. As Scarborough began to lap the end of the field on the last few !

circuits, Ricci held on to second, Cottrell third and Trombley had to settle for fourth. Bob

Savoie had a good run in fifth. Ken Tremont, Lee Nutting, Todd Stone, David Towns and Don

Ackner rounded out the top 10.

In the second modified feature Gardner Stone was the pole sitter. His son Todd lost control

on the first lap, banging with Mike Ricci and Ron Dwyer. After restarting the race, Tremont

blasted from sixth to first. Gardner lost some spots after that, as Don A!

ckner moved into second with Vince Quenneville in third. A caution with 11 down for Mike

Perrotte gave Ackner a chance to challenge Tremont for the lead. He was very strong in the

#97, but Tremont held him off for six or seven laps and then began to pull aw!

ay. Jeff Trombley moved into third as he got by Quenneville. Lapped traffic came into play at

the end of the race, with Ackner unable to keep up with Tremont. At the finish it was

Tremont, Ackner, Jeff Trombley, Vince Quenneville and Gardner Stone. The rest!

of the top 10 was Ricci, Savoie, Dan Douville, David Towns and Don Scarborough.

The sportsmen went 50 laps with Alan Larter taking the lead at the halfway point from Brian

Whittemore. Larter continued on for the win, followed by Mike Ballestero, Jim Davis, Sput

Shaw and Todd Morey. Both Davis and Shaw have been hot lately at the Bowl, !

with good runs in the top five.

Street stocks saw Chad Miller take the win, followed by Mike Bradley and Mike Fritz. In hobby

stock action Ryan Odasz made it a CVRA sweep, with his second win of the weekend. He was

followed to the line by Ted Bapp and Donnie Williams.
