Ken Tremont Wins at Devil's Bowl on Sunday
W. HAVEN VT -- Taking advantage of an eighth place start, Ken Tremont of West
Sand Lake, NY once again proved the long haul to Devil's Bowl is worth his
while. Tremont moved into first on the sixth lap and stayed out in front for
the remainder of the 30 lap!
event. In sportsmen action, Joe Budka of Scotia, NY sat in victory lane for
the first time this year.
The modified field was on the small side, with 20 cars in the starting lineup.
Jim Ryan was the early leader, followed by Chris Donnelly and Ron Dwyer. A lap
four caution for John Harrison saw Ryan get shuffled all the way back to
fourth as Dwyer took the l!
ead, Tremont moved into second after taking four spots in one circuit, and
Jack Cottrell also slipped by him to move into third place. One lap later Mike
Perrotte slammed into the wall in turn three after Tremont took the lead from
Dwyer. Tremont chose the !
high side on the start and stayed there, despite two more caution periods. The
last caution was thrown on lap 16 as Ron Dwyer spun after getting jammed from
behind by Cottrell, who was put to the rear by officials. Don Ackner pitted
for a flat tire but didn!
't go down laps.
When the green flew once again Tremont got out quickly to a six-car lead with
10 laps to go. The field began to string out, as Vince Quenneville tried to
run down Tremont from second and Bob Savoie worked on Quenneville in third. A
good battle was going for!
fourth with Dan Douville and Lee Nutting swapping places several times with
Nutting coming out the winner in that one. At the checkers it was Tremont,
Quenneville, Savoie, Nutting and Douville, with Ron Proctor, Chris Donnelly,
Mike Ronca, Mike Ricci and C!
huck Elms rounding out the top 10.
In sportsmen racing Joe Budka notched his first win over Tim LaDuc and Sput
Shaw. A lap nine incident saw Chuck Higley go up and over the wall in turn
three as leader Terry Stacy tried to hold off Budka in second. A rookie
mistake several laps later cost St!
acy the lead, as he drifted up too high and got into the wall slightly, losing
three spots as the field charged by and Budka took the lead. One more incident
with 10 to go saw five cars done for the night in a pile up on the guardrail
between turns one and !
two. Budka held on for the win, followed by Tim LaDuc, Sput Shaw, Jim Davis
and Mike Ballestero.
The street stock winner was Chad Miller, but in post-race inspections both he
and second place finisher Lucas Baker were disqualified, handing the win to
third place finisher Pete Kimball. Taking over second place was John
Fitzgerald, followed by Bill Bryde!
