First Modified Win For Tuthill
Mlddletown, NY: The trend for multiple and first time winners in the Big Black
division continued Saturday night at the Orange County Fair Speedway as Chris
Tuthill of Middletown, NY led wire to wire to collect his first checkered flag in tha
modified division. Tuthill, making on his second start of the season, put the Tri-State
Roofing car out front at the drop of the grean and then crossed the line first in
the Gurda-Gurda and Smith 30 lap feature. Tuthill, a six time winner in the 358 class.
had his last win here in August of 1989. Finishing a distant second was Richie Eurich
followed by Jeff Heordar, Tim Hindley and Gerry Higbie.
Added excitement was brought about when point leader Danny Johnson was
forced pit side on lap 11. Heotzler, who had fallen 15 points back of Johnson in the
point chase, now leads Johnson by 14 points on the strength d his 3rd place finish
The Four Star Transmisions 15 lap Sportsman feature saw Greg Sleight
finally get untracked to record his first win of the season. The veteran from Carmel, NY
who ranks second on the all time win list here, now has taken checkered flags in 8
different seasons - continuing to extend his class record. Jake Schlagel. Bill Grewl,
Bill Kukelka and Chris OuBois filled the other top five finishing positions.
Another record was set in the North Rock and Towing 15 lap Novice Street
Stock feature. Tom Cannizzaro of Stone Ridge, NY won his 5th feature of the season
which breaks a 3 way tie for most wins in rhe Novice aivision since the single feature
rormat was introduced in 1994. The 10 lap K-104 fm Radio Rookie Street Stock
features went to Wayne Eckerson of New Hampton, NY. For Eclterson, it was his 3rd win
of the season.
The four lap DlRT Sportsman dash for cash was won by Bill Green over Sleight.
Tom Hall, Chad Loiodice (whose father sponsored the event), and Pete Booth.
On Wednesday night, July 23rd, Scott Flammer of West Milford, NJ won his first
ever DlRT Sportsman feature here taking the 25 lap extra distance event run during
the 157th Orange Caunty Fair. Stan Jablonka, Marlt Hufcut, Alan Houghtaling, and
current point leader Jimmy Johnson completed the top five.
The 358 modifieds return this Saturday night for a Syracuse Qualifier and an
Enduro will cap off a full program of Modifieds, DlRT sponsman and Street Stocks.
