McCREADIE TAKES THIRD OF YEAR AT CAYUGA COUNTY

WEEDSPORT, NY...Bob McCreadie took his third Cayuga County

feature win of the year last Sunday. McCreadie was quick to thank

his crew for all of their hard work to help him get to victory

lane. Vince Vitale took top honors in the sportsman 20-lap main

event. Bus races were also on hand with Keith Ward driving a

Central New York Coach took the victory. Earlier in the evening

Jeff Blaisdell rolled (flopped over) the Tanner Roofing Bus in

the second turn during warm ups. He was uninjured, but it took

crews nearly 20 minutes to right the wrecked vehicle.

McCreadie, starting in the thirteenth spot, found it hard to

charge on the slick surface, but after a number of laps he was

able to catch the lead pack. To the delight of many fans Mike

Ward had been able to lead the race from the drop of the green.

Ward was able to last through a yellow on lap 13 when debris

brought out the caution. On lap 14 the yellow flew a second time

when Jay Hopkins and Alan Johnson tangled in the fourth turn.

Still Ward was able to hold off the pack and earn an extra $200

from Auburn Sand and Stone for leading lap 18. On lap later Geoff

Plis was able to nose into the lead. But his lead was short lived

as McCreadie powered passed to take command of the race on lap

22. From then on it was a romp for the master. The race for

second back however was developing into a barnburner.

Bobby Varin took the second spot from Plis on lap 28. Steve

Paine was charging in his small block to gain fourth at the line

from Mike Ward. The race ended with Paine passing Plis for third

at the finish line by inches. The final top five were McCreadie,

Varin, Paine, Plis and Ward.

In sportsman action Vince Vitale, who rolled the night

before at Canandaigua, took the lead at the drop of the green and

lead all 20 laps. He too gained an extra $100 from Auburn Sand

and Stone for leading lap 10. Jim Gabriel Jr, finished a strong

second followed by Jason Barney, Mike Button and Jim Spano.

Mike Potts took top honors in the 40-lap enduro.

This Sunday will be a non-point race for the sportsman

division as that division takes to the road in their Championship

series at Gasport. The Modifieds will be highlighted, along with

enduros and 1-on-1 spectator races. Race time will be at 7 p.m..
