KNAPP, WHITE, HILLIS, AND POST ALL FIRST TIME WINNERS AT FIVE MILE
KIRKWOOD, NY...Glenn Knapp claimed his first Modified feature win of the year Saturday night at Five Mile Point Speedway. Eddie White, Larry Hillis, and Bryan Post also claimed victories on Don's Automotive Mall Night.
Bob Hamm, Jr grabbed the lead at the drop of the green in the Modified feature. Hamm held the lead while being hotly pursued by Glenn Knapp Jr. The caution flew on lap 14 when several cars got together between turns one and two.
On the restart Knapp made his move on the outside to tkae the lead away from Hamm. Once in front Knapp never looked back and cruised to the victory over Hamm.
Joe Donahue Jr, Butch Tittle and Randy Davenport completed the top five. Positions six through ten went to Mike Clapperton, Tim Olenksi, Bill Huff, Jerry Northrup, and Jim witko Sr.
The Sportsman main event nearly went caution free. Dennis Dietrich took the lead on lap one and looked to be on his way to the win as he opened up a commanding lead.
All eyes were on Eddie White, who was working his way through the pack. White moved into second with eight laps to go. While he was closing in on Dietrich, it looked like his only hope was for a caution.
White got his wish when the first caution of the race occurred with just two laps to go. When the race resumed Dietrich pushed high ion three allowing White all the room he needed to take the lead and ultimatly the victory, his first at the Point in a Sportsman. Dietrich was second ahead of Gary Stage, Chad Cook, and Don Hart. Sixth through tenth went to Bob Lane, Mike Wilkinson, Bobby Yeager, Ladd Yeomans. and Jim gabriel Jr.
The Street Stock feature was a thriller that went right down the wire. larry Hillis has had his share of bad luck this year but on this night things would turn around. Hillis led from start to finish but he had no less than three cars all over him throughout the race.
Jamie Shea and Ricky Whitman made it a three car battle until lap 13 when they were momentarily hooked together. That put Butch Klinger, Greg McKernan and Dave Rumsey on his back bumper. Klinger chose the bottom on the last lap as he and Hillis went side by side down the backstretch.
Hillis got the better bite coming off turn four and beat Klinger for his first win by half a car length. McKernan was third ahead of Rumsey and Shea. Whitman, Rob Harder, Randy Gates, gary Card, and Walt McClenan rounded out the top ten.
Bryan Post took the lead on lap two from Al Collingwood and went onto his first Pure Stock win of the season. He was followed across the stripe by Joe Rafferty, Randy Percival, Charlie Gilbert, and Mike Stolarcyk. Sixth through tenth went to Glen Winsor, Collingwood, Larry Hillis III, Dan Slekak, Matt Lipka.
