TROMBLEY REPEATS AT FONDA

Fonda, NY-6/7/97... Jeff Trombley of Altamont, NY ducked under Seth Gano on the last lap of the 30 lap modified feature Saturday and pick up his second win of the season at The New Fonda Speedway.

Trombley, who started 17th, was on the go early and by lap eight was in the top five along with Jack Johnson, Mike Romano and Dave Camara.

Johnson was on a mission early in the event and overpowered early leader, Seth Gano, on lap eleven. Johnson held the lead until his Dutchess Overhead Door #87 slowed on the back stretch with mechanical woes on lap 19. This gave the lead to Dave Camara, who had been on Johnson bumper since lap twelve as the two hot shoes moved away from the field. Camara held the lead for only one lap as his car also suffered problems forcing him to pit on lap 20.

Once again Seth Gano was in the lead and pulling away. It looked like Gano would score his second win, but Jeff Trombley put his number 21J to the inside of Gano in turn three and brought the crowd to their feet for a stunning finish that gave Trombley the checker.

At the end of the rescheduled sportsman feature, Brian Borst of Schoharie sat in victory lane for career win number 10 at Fonda. John LeClair led from lap 15 and looked like a sure winner until Borst put his #69 under the #17L of John LeClair to take the lead on the last lap of the 20 lap event.

The second sportsman event of the night saw the entire field scramble with an early caution. On the restart Steve Sperbeck took the lead and held it until lap 13 when he spun in turn four. Dave Rosa was waiting in the wings and took advantage of Sperbeck's misque. Rosa ran the last seven laps with a flat left front tire and was able to stay ahead of a strong running Brian Borst, who was trying to make it two in a row.

With his win, Rosa of Delhi garnered a qualified spot for the Carquest Auto Parts World Series of Racing at Rolling Wheels Raceway in September. This was also Dave Rosa first ever win at the "Track of Champions."

The street stock action for the night, saw another first time winner, when Ram Kowalczyk of Amsterdam pulled his #14 into victory lane. Kowalczyk grabbed an early lead and with only two cautions in the event, was never seriously challenged. Kowalczyk dedicated his win to his Grandmother who passed away on Friday.

This week June 14, the "NEW" Fonda Speedway will host the ELS Sprints along with their regular card of racing.
