ANTHONY PERREGO SWEEPS ORANGE COUNTY BIG BLOCK, SMALL BLOCK DOUBLE HEADER

6/13/2020
Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, NY authored a career night Saturday at Orange County Fair Speedway when he swept to back to back victories in the 30-lap Big Block Modified and 25-lap Small Block Modified features.

Perrego, who has won track titles in each of the last three years at OCFS, rode different paths in each of the winning rides.

“It's the first time I've ever swept,” Perrego said. “Came close a few times. It feels that we hit the set up with two different cars so well.”

The wins for Perrego were the 13th of his career in each class. Perrego drove Brian Smith's Superior Remodeling No. 44 Teo Pro Cars with Billy The Kid power.

Starting 12th in the Big Block race, Perrego needed 21 laps to cut through traffic to catch and pass leader Jimmy Horton. He then had to hold off Matt Sheppard in an eight lap duel to the checkered after Sheppard passed Horton following a the race's second and final caution flag on lap 22.
“I didn't have anything for Anthony tonight,” runnerup Sheppard said. “We were off on our set up a little, but I can't be too upset with second last week and tonight.”

Horton lost a solid third place run when his car suffered sudden rear end problems with two laps to go. Michael Storms and Tyler Dippel advanced to third and fourth with Billy VanInwegen fifth.

Modified heats were won by Bob McGannon, Jerry Higbie and Perrego. Tyler Boniface won the consolation. Twenty-nine Big Blocks were in the pits.

In the Small Block race that preceded the Big Block main event, Perrego had a far easier time of it, starting second, taking the lead on the backstretch of the first lap after two accidents had called back prior starts. While Perrego was uncontested, Tyler Dippel, who started 14th in the field, charged to a second place finish. Michael Storms was third, Allison Ricci fourth and Gary Edwards, Jr. fifth.

An eight car crash in turn three with eight laps to go brought out a red flag. Seven of the eight cars were towed to the pit area, no drivers were injured.

Shane Jablonka, Tyler Dippel, Mike Mahaney, Perrego, and Edwards won the five heats for the 40-car field. Mike Kolka and Richard Smith won the pair of consolations.

Bobby Sleight, Jr., defending Street Stock champion, won the 15-lap Street Stock race over Rob Taylor and Walt Henry.

The races, which were the second of the 2020 season, were run with an advance registration requirement for race teams and for drive-in spectators.
